New Taipei City Museum of Art in Taiwan by DCPP Arquitectos

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Article source: DCPP Arquitectos

Our proposal for the New Taipei City Museum of Art is an open and welcoming design that erases the barrier of exclusivity normally surrounding the world of art, patrons, and experts.  As such, the architecture of the New Taipei City Museum of Art is one that embodies this idea of erasure through eliminating the traditional borders between exhibition space and circulation, as well as exterior and interior. Every part of the museum is represented by a space without limits that can hold any type of expression.

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Article source: solus4

Solus4 of Kittery Maine and Jamestown Rhode Island proposed a design solution for the Busan Opera House that flows with the elements of culture and history of Korea.

Alfonso Lopez, lead designer for Solus4 describes the origins of their design: “A very special characteristic of Korean heritage is the linked uniformity of the art, history, culture and language. Much of this is based on the beauty and the pleasure that each element of culture gives to the individual and the community”.

A new sports hall was to be constructed at the primary school in the district of Ubbedissen in Bielefeld because the old hall had not been consistent with modern requirements for a long time and also displayed great investment deficit. Besides the school the new hall was also intended for use by sports clubs so that it would enjoy better utilization. The new sports hall was to be built on fallow land near to the school that borders directly onto the existing sports fields.

Cienna Ultralounge in New York by Bluarch Architecture + Interiors + Lighting

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Article source: Bluarch Architecture

Cienna Ultralounge is a venue in the heart of Astoria [Queens, NY] designed to offer the ultimate entertainment experience to the discerning New York crowd. If Cienna Restaurant is an exercise on experiential lightness, Cienna Ultralounge is an essay on softness. This project is conceptually linked to the mathematical clarification of the shape of a silk cocoon via a cosine Fourier series. Formally, the space transposes such geometric formalization into a meandering system of openings on the ceiling and walls.

  • Architects: Bluarch Architecture + Interiors + Lighting
  • Project: Cienna Ultralounge
  • Location: New York, USA
  • Software used: The person who provides the lighting software installed a DMX controller at the DJ booth, which is a software to control the lighting – brightness, color, timing, action by sounds/music, etc…All of the LED lights above the acrylic rods are controlled by the software. The actual design of the space was tested in 3D max prior to construction, as is done for most of our projects since we employ organic forms and design systems that have often never been done before.
