Aaron Florian Housing in Bucharest, Romania by ADN BA

Friday, November 17th, 2017

Article source: ADN BA

Aaron Florian Apartment Building, is an honest answer to a particular urban setting: an irregular plot, the closeness of the opposite building raising privacy issues, a blind wall to a difficult neighbour and an inflection of the street. All these produce an atypical configuration – a building with floors successively recessed, the upper floors providing more light to the narrow street and the exterior spaces directing the views along it.

CW apartment in Trento, Italy by BURNAZZI FELTRIN ARCHITECTS

Friday, November 10th, 2017

Article source: BURNAZZI FELTRIN ARCHITECTS

CW apartment is located in an area on the south part of Trento, a green and rural cameo nestled inside the urban pattern. The flat is set in a new row house surrounded by fields mostly of which are apple orchards. Nearby a farm house, from the end of the nineteenth century, together with some one storey single family houses, recently built, marks out a low population density area. The furnishing project concerns both the day area and the night one, set on the same level: the ground floor. The family, which consists of three members, expressed to the designers the double need to stay with family, cooking or relaxing, and to share convivial moments with many friends during the weekend; the dining table and the kitchen are situated on the best windowed side of the apartment: the one towards the garden. The custom made furniture of the day area creates an efficient and versatile space, flexible to the different living needs; the fireplace, visible from all of the day area, designs an intimate space, relaxing and cozy.

Yarn Works in Fitchburg, Massachusetts by The Architectural Team, Inc.

Friday, November 10th, 2017

Article source: The Architectural Team, Inc.

The 100+ year-old Nockege River Mill Building, formerly home to the Fitchburg Yarn Company, is situated on 7.4 acres on the banks of the Nashua River in the city of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Its 182,500 square feet span three massive floors. The Architectural Team’s thoughtful restoration and adaptive reuse of the historic structure into Yarn Works creates 96 oversized, modern lofts, of which 57 are market-rate and 39 affordable at different levels of area median income (AMI). The building features more than 280, 8-foot by 10-foot windows to provide each unit with expansive views and an abundance of natural light. The unit mix comprises 29 one-bedroom, 58 two-bedroom, and nine three-bedroom apartments; amenities include a large community room with 25-foot ceiling and 17-foot-tall windows, a fitness center with yoga room, on-site bike storage and workshop, and a new grand central atrium gallery. Renovation work on the National Register of Historic Places-listed building included removing the first floor and rebuilding it with concrete slab raised above the 100-year floodplain, as well as the repointing and repairing of the exterior brick envelope and chimney stack, and structural reinforcement to the roof. In addition, all windows and frames were replaced with historically matched, energy-efficient reproductions. The site stands a mile from the city center, with easy access to transit and commuter rail lines.

Expo III MF Apartment in Lisbon, Portugal by João Tiago Aguiar, arquitectos

Thursday, November 9th, 2017

Article source: Tiago Aguiar, arquitectos

The apartment in question is located in Parque das Nações area in a contemporary building.

Although having relatively spacious compartments it really didn’t properly exist a sense of unity between the parts of the apartment. The social area was too partitioned and the existence of different materials in a relatively small space generated a space with lack of fluidity. The stone in the entrance hall and living-room as well as the tiles in the kitchen and in the bathroom created a too dated and cold atmosphere. The idea was to unify as much as possible the atmosphere of the apartment in order to dilute its limits. This concept gained shape with the implementation of a single pavement in cement that would link all the spaces.

Cross Street Bankstown in Australia by Tony Owen Partners

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017

Article source: Tony Owen Partners

Bankstown Gardens is a 9 storey signature apartment development consisting of 54 units, in a landscaped garden setting.

The building is located on a prominent corner in Sydney’s Bankstown. The building is curved at the corner to reinforce the corner and present as a gateway in the streetscape. The dynamic design utilises a framework of sun control fins to create an exciting frieze on the façade. The diagonal geometry articulates the façade whilst allowing for large expanses of glazing and external planter devices. The transparency of this material is juxtaposed with the lightness of the white screens to create a vibrant and light façade.

Atelier House in Lisbon, Portugal by INÊS BRANDÃO – ARQUITECTURA

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017

Article source: INÊS BRANDÃO – ARQUITECTURA

The goal is to rehabilitate an apartment, with 70m2, inserted in a building that goes back to early 40’s, inserted in an industrial neighbourhood with a characteristic architecture, it served as a social housing for the workers of “Ar Liquido” factory. These apartments were characterized by having small rooms, individually linked by a long corridor, making them spaces with a high lack of natural light. The lack of storage space, especially in the kitchen, was another major problem, which had to be solved.
