Student Residence 179 rooms in La Verrière, France by ITAR architectures

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

Article source: Metropolis Communication

The residence is the first apartment building on the site of the urban renewal program implemented around the station. It is perceived as a flagship project, intended to strengthen the town’s identity. Outlines, scales, volumes and materials, defined in particular during the studies carried out for this “pilot” building project, enabled the definition of urban rules that will shape future projects all around it. It is a compact building where the work on the composition of volumes made it possible to integrate it into the loose urban fabric while simultaneously restructuring the latter. The complex composition of the façades is rendered visible across the entire length of the building through the differentiation of volumes, setbacks and materials. The prow black enameled brick marks the corner of the two future streets. Splitting the two volumes creates a more diverse morphology in the existing cityscape, while also marking the linear rhythm of the façades through fractures of several stories and top floor setbacks creating a greater sense of lightness.

Kolenik creates multifunctional luxury apartment in Amsterdam.

‘A typical Amsterdam apartment’ is how the interior designer Robert Kolenik describes this apartment in Amsterdam city centre, which comprises the upper three floors of a building. Having lived and worked abroad for years, the owner asked Kolenik to come up with an interior design for his apartment. ‘Homes in the city centre are limited in terms of size’, the designer explains, ‘so the challenge is to create functional space that retains a luxurious, homely feel.’

The LRF Apartment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Paula Martins Arquitetura, Interiores e Detalhamento

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

Article source: Paula Martins Arquitetura, Interiores e Detalhamento

This old four bedroom apartment has been completely remodelled according to the wishes of a family with two kids who enjoy entertaining friends in an informal atmosphere. To accomplish this family had one wall in the kitchen area demolished, and to make it easier to maintain covered most of the others in wallpaper. Wooden pieces of furniture in the living room provide an air of cosiness to the property, and the coffee table was specially made out of a unique wooden tree trunk, bringing some rusticity to the room. The wallpaper used in the kitchen, in a citric green stripe pattern, adds a nice contrast to the neutral colours in the other rooms. A mirror was placed on one of the walls in order to create the illusion of a bigger kitchen. Glass sliding doors add a sense of privacy when necessary.

Located in a very nice area in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this 260 square meter apartment has a complete view of the Guanabara’s Bay. It was purchased by a young couple and fully remodelled according to their wishes and desires. The interior was conceived to create a pleasant atmosphere, in accordance to the owners’ style. The new finishes and pieces of furniture are mostly white and their elegant and contemporary look adorn the room. The BWW apartment is a project that is considerate of the couple’s gatherings during the weekends. Residential – Disappearing Corridor in Hong Kong, China by Bean Buro

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Article source: Bean Buro

Bean Buro has designed a 1,485sqft (138sqm) apartment for a young family of four in the south side of Hong Kong Island. Unchanged since the early 1990’s, the apartment featured closed off rooms accessed by a long corridor, and large windows looking over the ocean.

Retreating from Hong Kong’s busy lifestyle, the apartment’s entrance is a semi-enclosed foyer which marks the threshold between inside and outside.

Designed with a comfortable seat, playful hooks and concealed shoes and coat cabinet, it allows for a moment of pause and appreciation of the home.
