Municipal Auditorium Of Lucena in Cordoba, Spain by MX_SI architectural studio

Thursday, November 24th, 2016

Article source: MX_SI architectural studio

The building project housing the Municipal Auditorium at Lucena recognizes the importance of the proximity to the river, the city’s exhibition centre and integration with the landscape as well as the extreme climatic conditions of the area.

The walk along the river provides a spatial sequence based on different gradients of open, semi-covered, covered and enclosed spaces. As a prelude, a large space or open forum is created for crowds to congregate at concerts and outdoor events.

Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville in Caen, France by OMA

Article source: OMA

Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville is a public library for the metropolitan region Caen la Mer in Normandy, France. The 12,000 m2 multimedia library is located at the tip of the peninsula that extends out from the city of Caen to the English Channel. Its key position – between the city’s historic core and an area of Caen that is being developed – supports the city’s ambition for the library to become a new civic center. The library’s glass facade visually connects the adjacent park, pedestrian pathway and waterfront plaza to the interior and together with two large ground floor entrances at both sides of the building, enables a fluid interaction of the library with its surroundings. On the upper floors, the urban belvedere provides unobstructed views in all four directions.

Article source: v2com

100% Design, the UK’s largest design trade show, announces its line-up of specially commissioned installations and features, reflecting both conceptually and physically this year’s theme of ‘experience’. Each installation will play on the senses to map a multi-sensory journey through the show, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in contemporary product design and be inspired by the possibilities enabled by great design.

The Central Bar at 100% Design has long been a hub for networking, a symbolic destination at the heart of both the show itself and the wider design industry. This year the 100% Design team has brought together a stream of uprights with colour scales adding drama to the central space, defining the area and providing a moment of shelter. The dramatic overhead installation is intended to provide a focal point for the entire show, surrounded by specially devised fins that define the entire space.

Cafetería Colegio Los Nogales in Bogotá, Colombia by Taller Arquitectura De Bogota

Saturday, August 27th, 2016

Article source: Taller Arquitectura De Bogota

Under the idea of making an expressive and seismically efficient structure, the pavilion is designed with a single type V column which gradually rotates and reverses, generating an apparently random sequence. As a result, the building simulates movement creating static movement architecture. As well, the resulting shape is very efficient to resist seismic forces.

Synergy

The KRONA Knowledge and Cultural Centre enhances Kongsberg’s cultural institutions and stimulates interaction between diverse communities and disciplines. Comprised of a variety of functions, KRONA houses new teaching and technical laboratory facilities for Buskerud University College and Tinius Olsen Technical Vocational College, as well as a technical university library. The complex also includes a public library, cinemas, municipal offices and a theatre auditorium. Its functions are organised around a central void with shared functions, enhancing flexibility and reducing programme redundancy. Using subtle landscape elevations and strategically locating programme access points, visitors intuitively gravitate towards the Centre. Throughout the interior spaces, strong visual connections to public functions further enhance the liveliness of the complex.

The confines of the topographical site were decisive. As on the Portuguese and Genoese coasts, it was important to design a project that could marry the rugged topography of the terrain, and give rise to a building in its slope.

Thursday, December 24th, 2015

Article source: ERIK GIUDICE ARCHITECTURE

The aim of the Museum and Cultural center is to invent a cultural center of new type without duplicating existing models, to create a hybrid space that takes into account the realities of the cultural Moroccan context, to provide different content and reach a diverse audience. The shape of the traditional nomadic tent provides the starting point for the architectural concept.
