Urban Collage in Champigny-sur-Marne, France by Maison Edouard François

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Article source: Maison Edouard François

At Champigny-sur-Marne, respect of the context and the refusal to interpret it led us to take a unique position. The site is a grand ensemble that was built in the 1970’s : a large zone of housing filled with towers and multi-story housing blocks near the old town center. The program asked for an urban renewal plan based on a new town center with shops and housing.

BROWNIE is a bakery shop and a house, located inside Aso Kuju National park where it is blessed with its rich nature. From the start of the design process, corresponding to the client’s bold belief on bread making using natural, organic, and non-addictive materials, “nature” was strongly intended in the design of this building.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Renovation in Washington by atelierjones

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Article source:  atelierjones

The project is a renovation of and design of a new entry addition to an iconic mid-century Northwest Modernist church, designed by Steinhart/Theriault in 1962. The worn 50 year old structure required a new liturgical space for gatherings around a new full-immersion baptismal artist-designed font, as well as accessibility, structural and energy upgrades. Careful choices about stripping away the years of accumulated renovations that had marred the powerful space were required.

Amsterdam 289 in Condesa, Mexico City by JSª

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Article source: JSª

In a privileged location in the Condesa neighborhood, on a rectangular property of 363 m2 (3,907 sq. ft.), ten individual housing units have been designed, in two different typologies but with distinct differences, each with different features and sizes. This creates an interesting variety within the same complex. It has two buildings, five levels each, divided by a central patio, and communicated through bridges around the perimeter that separate the social and the private areas.

GP House in Hidalgo, Mexico by Bitar Arquitectos

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

Article source: Bitar Arquitectos

GP House has all the basic requirements of a residential home, foyer, living room, dining area, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 3 ½ bathrooms, studio, laundry, three-car garage, maid’s quarter, spread over two floors and connected by vertical staircase to break up the home’s dominant horizontal construction. This juxtaposition is even more striking with the use of a local stone as a finish on the cube stairs against its concrete structure.
