Le Temps Machine in Joue-Les-tours, France by Moussafir Architects

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Article source: Moussafir Architects

A Southwest suburb of the city of Tours, Joué-le-Tours was upgraded to the status of a town in the 1950s. It was at this point that, together with the town hall and social housing, Joué-le-Tours got its MJC (the Youth and Culture Centre). An initiative of the country’s first Minister of Cultural Affairs, Gaullist and intellectual André Malraux, the MJCs were an important institution in France.

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Brooks + Scarpa Architects

This new public school for 500 students is located in a tough South Los Angeles neighborhood almost directly under the flight path into LAX and adjacent to the very busy 105 Century freeway.  The design was influenced by the New Orleans architects Curtis and Davis who designed and built many schools in the early 1950s in Louisiana.  Their designs adapted to the harsh southern climate without using air conditioning, creating sustainable light filled and poetic spaces for kids to learn.

The garden is located on the southwest coast of Portugal, in Herdade da Comporta, Alentejo, which is an outstanding and diverse landscape mosaic with high ecological and cultural value. It is worth mentioning the dune system with psammophilous pioneer vegetation, as well as maritime and umbrella pine woods. This mosaic is complemented by agricultural areas in the lower alluvial soils with large ranges of rice fields. The plot area is 3000m2, and the morphology of the land is very smooth and low sloped.

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Gianluca Milesi Architecture

This is a project for a single house-villa placed in a natural imaginary environment. The aim of the design is to create an intimate space strongly communicating with the external environment at the same time. This communication and particular relationship is established through the creation of cracks in a simple box volume that break the enclosure of the interior space and open, visually and physically to the outside.

Article source: Avignon-Clouet Architectes

Situated on the west coast (Morbihan), this resort house crouches in its own field as if to protect itself from the sea’s spray. Entirely made of concrete and granite, its mineral appearance welcomes with sensitivity, the shadows due to light changes. Perforated by many patios, the house integrates some framing on of the capricious sky of the west coast. The long sunshades remind the sand fences guiding walkers along the coast paths.

Dental Clinic in Oporto, Portugal by Paulo Merlini

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

Article source: Paulo Merlini

The uncommon form, narrowness, vertical amplitude of the space and the two big glass façades placed on the main and back façade defined mainly the organization of the spaces. The reception and waiting room it’s characterized by a big white box that floats in the air playing with the vertical amplitude of the space. The interior of the box mimetizes the idea of being under a roof, giving the user a familiar sensation of comfort, and helping I’m to calm down before the treatment.  From the “roof” a series of lamps float in the air, filling the space with light.

Article source: Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados

São Paulo. In this city, which contemporaneity is able to perform the most extraordinary urban contrasts for us, living can reveal an encouraging condition. In search of a place where this could be experienced, the idea of an elementary residence acquires the character of a happening. Thus, as this house decided to silently place itself at the westerly metropolitan meanders, is how it is presented at Maracanã Street.
