The school is set on a site close to the historic town center of La Orotava, mixing with the pre-existing walls of the farming terraces and letting the land flow beneath the building. The concrete walls are pigmented with colours that fade in accordance with the folds in the linear volumes and their proximity to the different rural and urban environments.

De Farine & D’eau Fraîche in QC, Canada by Surface3

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Article source: Surface3

De Farine & D’eau Fraîche is a pastry boutique, whose concept is founded on love, naiveté, and escapism. In designing the space, Surface3 sought to capture the essence of pastries and the way we enjoy them in a way that is simple, magical and lasting; from the exchange of pastries as a ritual signifying love and friendship, to the pleasure inherent in simple indulgence.

Agora Sociocultural Center in A Coruña, Spain by Rojo/Fernandez-Shaw, Arquitectos

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Article source: Rojo/Fernandez-Shaw, Arquitectos

An Agora must be an accessible and open space for people’s meeting and their civic expression. This public and collective character makes architecture face to a double challenge:

On the one hand, its program is complex and multiple, covering from culture, administration, meeting, spectacle and social services.

On the other hand, even being a building, its true vocation is linked and close to the concept and qualities of a square.

Habitat 15 in Hollywood, California by Predock Frane Architects (designed using AutoCAD and Rhino)

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Article source: Predock Frane Architects

DESIGN INTENT: Working within the context of a for-profit MUR creates a particular set of parameters; programmatic, physical, and client/cost informed. Our solution is two 4-story buildings placed parallel to the street. Between them is a courtyard, reached via a tunnel through the first building, accommodating shared public space and circulation. The simple cubic shape of the buildings allowed for greater project resources to be deployed to the sectional relations within the units. The separation into two buildings allows half of the unit’s access to light on three sides.
