Ant Farm House in Taipei, Taiwan by XRANGE

Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

Article source: XRANGE

Xrange wraps a new layer of 80- 177cm wide by 7m high living spaces around an existing indigenous stone house to create an “extreme” new house of outrageous living proportion.  The newly added programs of pantry, bar, study, library, dog house and bathrooms are new “rooms” averaging about 4m2 in footprint, but with soaring 7m headroom.  The new house becomes a sequence of small narrow vertical spaces that interlock like the spaces within an ant colony.

Jack Daniel’s Barrel House 1-14 in Lynchburg, Tennessee by Clickspring Design

Tuesday, July 4th, 2017

Article source: Clickspring Design

Most who have visited a distillery know that entering an active barrel house is a profound olfactory experience. Over a period of five or more years, as a barrel of whiskey matures, a portion of its contents is lost to evaporation. This inevitable process, multiplied by thousands of barrels, creates the “angel’s share”, a scent that blankets the building in a delightfully unmistakable aroma. The angel’s share is one of the first characteristics that welcomes visitors to Barrel House 1-14 at the Jack Daniel Distillery.

The assignment called for a public building that transcends its function as a parking garage and whose representation fits its strategic position in the classically designed centre of Leidsche Rijn.
