Housing Razgledi Perovo in Kamnik, Slovenia by Dekleva Gregoric Arhitekti (designed using AutoCAD)

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Article source: Dekleva Gregoric Arhitekti

The houses on Perovo stand on an exposed location with an exceptional view of the Kamniško-Savinjske Alps in the background. However the view is not the only characteristic of this location, as the houses represent a dominant feature of the valley when viewed from below. Thus the architectural task at hand brings at least two important challenges. First, it is necessary to design and create a quality living environment for the future residents, and second, the project provides an opportunity to redefine the look of the settlement on Perovo which has a rather heterogeneous and inharmonious layout with its scattered individual houses.

The house is located in a “typical” peripheric urbanization of Pousos, a parish of the municipality of Leiria. Situated east of the city and at high ground, it works as a sort of panoramic belvedere over Leiria.  So as to assure for more space and complete access to the faraway view, the owners bought the three lots ahead, over the “cliff”.

Article source: Ojanen Chiou architects LLP

The home office of internationally renowned landscape architecture firm SWA Group is a 12,000sf (1,200sm) warehouse located near San Francisco Bay that was originally used in the manufacture of Liberty ships during WWII from1942-1945.  Ojanen_Chioiu architects LLP was commissioned to re-conceptualize the 1980’s-era entry lobby that had outlived its functionality and lacked a strong spatial or material resonance with the firm’s work and identity.

The CityDeck in Green Bay, Wisconsin by Stoss Landscape Urbanism

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Article source: Stoss Landscape Urbanism

The CityDeck is the heart of a multi-phase redevelopment project along Green Bay’s Fox River. The project aims to allow for significantly increased access to the river and to diversify social and ecological life along it.

The site is a 2-acre strip of land, typically measuring 50 to 60 feet wide, that runs along the edge of the Fox River in downtown Green Bay. It is about one-quarter-mile in length and is situated between two bridges that cross the river. At the project’s beginning, adjacent parcels were empty, abandoned (a large yellow warehouse), or in use as parking lots. Nearby buildings turned their back on the riverfront. Unsurprisingly, there was little social or civic life here, and no reason to visit; the elevated walk along existing bulkhead walls prevented any direct access down to the river—as well as up to the city from boats.

Vila Castela Residence in Minas Gerais, Brazil by Anastasia Arquitetos (designed using AutoCAD)

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

Article source: Anastasia Arquitetos

Built in a sloped site (30 degrees) in the city of Nova Lima, Brazil, the house uses dramatic cantilevers to emphasize the extremity of its position. We have chosen this concept not only for aesthetic reasons, but above all to reduce the interference of the building mass in the topography, keeping the site as natural as possible.
