Rizoma in São Paulo, Brazil by Estudio Penha

Monday, June 3rd, 2019

Article source: Estudio Penha

Rizoma is a brand whose goal is to produce food in large scale, using systems that regenerate the soil. They wanted to hire a young contemporary architecture office who shared values with the brand and had a design that reflected the company’s philosophy.

The choosing of Edifício Coruja was a first step in the right direction, for it has ample green area and a natural spontaneous integration between the indoors and outdoors. The building features ample windows that offer great visual contact with its surroundings. The interior design was born of an intention to enrich the existing architecture, such as its concrete slab.

Whole Earth Montessori School Building in Bothell, Washington by PAUL MICHAEL ARCHITECTS, PLLC

Monday, June 3rd, 2019

Article source: PAUL MICHAEL ARCHITECTS, PLLC

Inspired by the trinomial cube, a primary teaching tool in Montessori education, Paul Michael Davis Architects’ (PMDA) designed an addition to a rural campus that merges the school’s pedagogy with the surrounding natural environment.

Each of the twenty-seven blocks in the trinomial cube is represented by a window. The largest window is purposefully located on the north facade of the building because that side receives passive light, and therefore won’t add excessive heat gain or glare to the structure.

The essence of the project defines its spaces by means of guiding axis, a great wall coated in ACM. The lights' apertures in the ceiling, together with the lines of light of the wall, both bring dynamism and create tension in the space, marking the road to the brand's future goals.

Offices Casado & Pujol in Petrer, Spain by Pablo Muñoz Payá Arquitectos

Thursday, May 23rd, 2019

Article source: Pablo Muñoz Payá Arquitectos

The project is based on the offices refurbishment for a consultant company in Petrer (Alicante, Spain) with an area of 141m2.

The design is created through a distribution based on visual and spatial communication, thus developing two spaces with different use and characteristics. The first is a diaphanous and open space for general consultations where we find the areas of waiting room, reception, workstations and storage. The second consists of three closed wooden cubes for more specific and personal advice, consisting of two offices and a meeting room. These three cubes visually communicate with the opposite area through large glass panels that allow sunlight to arrive to all work rooms. Inside the interstices that generate the cubes we find a toilet and an auxiliary office.

Tillamook Creamery in Oregon by Olson Kundig

Tuesday, May 21st, 2019

Article source: Olson Kundig

The new Tillamook Creamery is the latest addition to Tillamook’s Oregon coast campus, which has seen many phases of development since the original factory building opened in 1947. Through architecture, interactive exhibits, landscape design, and custom furnishings, the new Tillamook Creamery visitor experience is designed to illustrate the story of Tillamook’s mission and origins – a history founded as much on high-quality dairy products as the member families who make up Tillamook’s farmer-owned cooperative. Located adjacent to the company’s flagship manufacturing facility and headquarters, the new 42,800-square-foot facility contains exhibits, a retail shop, a restaurant and ice cream counter, allowing Tillamook to share their traditions, processes and products with 1.3 million visitors every year.

Casa Puebla in Mexico by rdlp arquitectos

Tuesday, May 21st, 2019

Article source: rdlp arquitectos

Casa Puebla displays a concept towards inside life where the visual motif is the Popocatépetl volcano, one of the most important natural icons in central Mexico.

The residence was conceived through inspiration regarding the aesthetic values of Mexican culture translating them into an avant-garde concept, in a fresh, contemporary and warm way, carefully selecting materials, as well as encouraging its residents to live both on the inside and to the outside through the openings towards the garden. Color and material palette seeks to blend architecture with its context, being an implicit tribute to the volcano.

Toks Restaurant in Veracruz, Mexico by LEGORRETA

Sunday, May 19th, 2019

Article source: LEGORRETA

The building where this project was developed is located in the Historical Center area of the city of Veracruz, in the Eastern State of Mexico. The area is completely covered by the temple’s nave that formed part of the Santo Domingo Monastery, constructed in the XVII Century.

This Monastery was one of the first that were established in Veracruz, with the arrival of the Dominican Order, and begun its construction in 1624, concluding in 1651. When President Benito Juárez launched the Reforma Laws, the complex became privately owned, and it was in 1857 when the warehouse “Casa Zaldo Hermanos” was founded. This local was in operation for more than 40 years. During the first decade of the Twentieth Century, a building was erected where the main facade and atrium were located, leaving only the side facade untouched, where a half orange dome may be seen.

Ilil Coffee in Cheongju-si, South Korea by ATMOROUND

Sunday, May 19th, 2019

Article source: ATMOROUND

Located in suburb, customers of ilil coffee store are intrigued by what is on trend even when they are rather hesitant to apply the new trend to their lives. Being surrounded by familiarity can make us feel comfortable, but can be dull; newness can give fresh touch to our lives, but it may provide discomfort. The main theme of this project was to keep the balance between the two and to make the familiar feel unfamiliar and to make the unfamiliar feel familiar.

The priority of this project was to find the essence of things; being able to see what can be created out of the essence regardless of what it was made to be. Designers constantly reexamined their ideas to show customers different perspectives, and this enabled customers to embrace new ideas into their daily lives.

As it being near residential area, bringing in the features of home was key to the design. Familiar factors of home such as the couch of living room, curtains, windows, dinner table, and room with window were brought into the design in a new perspective.

Van Hoorebeke Timber Ghent in Belgium by TRANS architectuur I stedenbouw c.v.b.a.

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

Article source: TRANS architectuur I stedenbouw c.v.b.a.

Connected to the seven seas thanks to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, the site on the quay links wood-producing countries with the continental market. Here, raw timber is unloaded, stored and processed before being transported over land.

The scale of the port area dominates the docks, populated by ocean-going giants, squeezed between wind turbines and factories that only seem to grow bigger with distance.
