VIMOB Valle del in Cauca, Colombia by Colectivo Creativo Arquitectos

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

Article source: Colectivo Creativo Arquitectos

VIMOB was born from the notion of creating a shelter in an area of difficult access; a place where building a traditional construction would be limited by transport of materials and labor. It is a modular housing solution, based on the concept of prefabrication and assembly, capable of holding the essential space of a traditional construction in a practical, flexible, attractive and modern prototype. It is structured from carefully studied modules, articulated with harmony and sobriety in a cozy atmosphere, allowing the enjoyment of the environment and providing an image of high standing.

Back of the Yards High School in Chicago, Illinois by STL Architects

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Article source: STL Architects

This urban high school is organized into three thematic components: body, mind and spirit, that relate to the various programs and activities within the school that compose the curriculum. The site is zoned according to these thematic areas and bars are created, housing the athletics (body), the academy classrooms and teaching spaces (mind), and the library, arts and music (spirit). The bars slide against each other to create outdoor spaces on the site, programmed for specific activities that work in conjunction with the buildings—entry courtyard, athletics fields, and reading garden. The three volumes (body, mind, and spirit) that comprise the school are created by one continuous wall that snakes back and forth through the site.

TMOLO House in Asturias, Spain by PYO arquitectos

Tuesday, November 24th, 2015

Article source: PYO arquitectos

Before its conversion, the farmhouse was untouched for over five decades and needed a complete renovation to be adapted for contemporary needs. There were two construction sites: the main house and a stable. The main house was in a very bad condition, overgrown with vegetation, and numerous repairs had to be made to make it livable. The stone and timber structure of the stable was significantly deteriorated and most of the walls had to be replaced.
