TOP! Store in Salacgriva, Latvia by ARHIS ARHITEKTI

Saturday, April 4th, 2015

Article source: ARHIS ARHITEKTI

The building is created for two scales of perception – towards the VIA Baltica highway it is designed as a linear volume to be perceived in movement, its form and material – wooden planks reminds Salacgrivas historical ship crafting tradition. On the other side, facing Riga Street and a pedestrian walkway, a smaller scale facade is designed which plastic-ally flows into the public space and is close to pedestrian’s scale of perception. New interior conception and colour principles were created to improve the style of the grocery store chain.

RENOVA STORE & THEATRE in Torres Novas, Portugal by Paulo Henrique Durão, Architect

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

Article source: Paulo Henrique Durão, Architect

There was, from the beginning, the intent to work this project as a machine, a TIME CAPTURING MACHINE. This condition was naturally the result of the place, the context and the industrial spirit, that penetrated the imagination. Condition to which it was added the will to capture, within the project, time and its flow. A flow of time and light into the spaces that would say – the architecture captures time, architecture captures the flow of time.

Multifunctional Sports Hall in Cluj-Napoca, Romania by DICO și ȚIGĂNAȘ

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

Article source: DICO și ȚIGĂNAȘ

Cluj – Napoca is a city of young people with 25% of its population studying in universities. Student life means also sports and the tradition is consistent. The new Multifunctional Sports Hall is the newest piece of public infrastructure for training, championships and cultural events, in a building conceived to be part of an ensemble together with Cluj Arena, the soccer and athletics stadium also designed by Dico and Tiganas and opened in 2011. Both objectives have generated new public spaces relating the Central Garden of the City with the river Some banks promenades, towards a Sports park and another public garden in a sequence of public spaces of almost 2 kilometers. The envelope of the building is a simple box including another box which contains the main hall, of 7.000 seats and up to 10.000 people for concerts. The facade is an assemblage of layers reflecting and transmitting the light into the foyers inside. The outer mask is mesh of parametrically distorted rectangles inspired by the nets used in several ball sports. The perforated steel plates are forming 3D pyramids reflecting the sky and the sun at every time in different angles and colored effects. The building has a permanent dialogue with the people from the street through the challenge to read the geometry of the facades, being the same time introverted. Inside the public will be guided by 4 thematic colors corresponding with the cardinals. The main hall is a stage and a backstage in the same time, bringing together the public and the performers in a black box with all equipments apparent but camouflaged. From shinning white with golden accents to dark grey and black ambiance, from outside to inside and backwards, architecture is built by light and colors.

Article source: Pascal Arquitectos

This is the Jewish ritual purification bath.  It can be only performed in fresh spring water, or in a specially dedicated place fed by rain water which has to be collected, stored and communicated to the bath recipient which is called the Mikveh.  All of this, has to be done following a series of very strict rules regarding the status of purity of the water.  These rules include also the use of the materials, architectural measures and water treatment.

B+B House in São Paulo, Brazil by studio mk27

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

Article source: studio mk27

The arrival at House B+B – the access to the social area – is through an architectural trajectory, via an open ramp, located on the eastern side of the construction. This space is protected by hollowed-out concrete elements to the side, which create surprising effects of light and end up functioning as protection from bad weather conditions.

DRAGONFLY PARK in Hội An, Vietnam by V-architecture

PHYLOSOPHY – BE GENTLE WITH NATURE

Traditionally, the designer sees building (architecture) in terms of its aesthetics, siting, spatial utilization, form, structure, building elements, use of color and shade, and other usual features of architectural design. However, the ecologist sees building in the context of the ecosystem concept. This means that he or she conceives a building as consisting of not only the a biotic (non-living) components but also the biotic (living) components, all of which operate together as a whole system in the context of other ecosystems in the biosphere.

Saturday, March 28th, 2015

Article source: Taller Sintesis

Pueblo Bello is a town of Antioquia Uraba, inhabited by about 2000 people, which from 1990 and for nearly twenty years suffered the worst effects of paramilitary and guerrilla violence. Enforced disappearances, massacres, the burning of buildings and people, and population displacement were common. In this dark picture is highlighted the disappearance of “the 43″, the largest forced disappearance of the history of Colombia and the reason why the nation was sanctioned by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
