“Everything remembered, everything thought, all awareness becomes base, frame, pedestal, lock and key of his ownership. Period, region, craft, previous owners – all, for the true collector, merge in each one of his possessions into a magical encyclopaedia whose quintessence is the fate of his object.”

House in Pedrogão, Torres Novas, Portugal by Paulo Henrique Durão

Friday, September 20th, 2013

Article source: Paulo Henrique Durão

I take Saramago once again: “My relation with time is, above all, very specific….when trying to express it graphically; I understand time as a large screen, a huge screen, where every single event is projected, including the oldest and the most recent. On that screen, everything is side by side in a kind of chaos as if time was compressed and flattened on that surface; as if events, facts and people were shown and assembled chaotically instead of being diachronically assembled, and we were meant to find a meaning.” (1)

HOUSE IN Monticelli Brusati, Italy by Studio Artec

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

Article source: Studio Artec

We like thinking about this house as a transposition on our territory of a Californian Case Study House of the 1950s and 60s. The structure is of course adapted to the local climate and landscape, but the spirit that generated this design is that of simplicity and of being self-confident with the place as it had been for those so famous houses.

Apartment in Moscow, Russia by ITHAKA – Architecture and design

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

Article source: ITHAKA – Architecture and design

The main concept was a rational approach to the use of expensive housing in Moscow. The future residents chose a minimalistic interior with open space instead of separated living and dining rooms and predominant white color for the walls. The use of organic materials such as travertine of milky color and American walnut wood of chocolate shade ensure an elegant, yet welcoming feel throughout.

LCC1301 in Medellin, Colombia by Land+Civilization Compositions, Taller 301, openfabric

A conceptual framework for the development of the city of Medellin

Multiple intertwined streams of issues

Medellin is wealthy city; wealthy in terms of its ambitions and its potential. Further, this project is a rare opportunity the ability to reform the ENTIRE riverfront that runs through a major city is rare. Therefore, this opportunity must be thought of as being even bigger than just a public space design, it must be taken as a chance to reform and set the framework for Medellin’s future. Obviously the riverfront is the key element in this project, but its influence and importance is much larger than the given project site boundaries. This proposal uses this competition to set forth principals for redevelopment, the use of funds, the city and its history, the relation to ecology, the movement of people, and so forth. Clear thinking about the further evolution of the city and how this project can be a trigger in this process is not overlooked by this project.
