Article source: v2com

[Misfit]fit is a new six-storey, 32,000 square foot boutique office building situated on a small vacant site in Toronto’s Liberty Village. Seeking to build upon the rich lineage of Toronto’s precast concrete history, the proposal  provides an alternative to the pervasive glass curtain wall project. The building’s program is comprised of four floors of flexible office space, retail at grade, and a rooftop sculpture garden/ event space.

“Los Álamos de Fuentecisneros” Block of 59 houses in Madrid, Spain by Otto Medem Arquitectura S.L.

Sunday, February 19th, 2017

Article source: Otto Medem Arquitectura S.L.

As the architect, from the begining of the project, I set out the following main goals:

Make the most of the characteristics of the terrain and enhance them by choosing the perfect orientation.

Design a set of housing complex that escapes from the everyday conventionalism of collective housing, and that is able to transmit and generate feelings. I want people to be overcome with emotion as soon as they enter the complex and feel the  beauty and harmony that each home provides, without sacrificing functionality.

Article source: Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid OÜ

The building with its monotonous presentability and rationality fits well into the emerging university campus. South of the instutute there is a spacious sunny square. The building consists of four interconnected building blocks of varying heights (A-, B-, C- and D-block) that form a private courtyard. The building is finished with reinforced concrete that is treated with iron sylphate and Cor-Ten.

School Jean-Monnet Broons in Brittany, France by Dietrich | Untertrifaller and Colas Durand Architectes

Friday, February 17th, 2017

Article source: Dietrich | Untertrifaller

The Jean Monnet secondary school for around 600 students lies north of Broons, a 3000-resident town in Brittany, and is considered one of the most important educational facilities in the region.

The design by Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten and the French firm CDA (Colas Durand Architectes) reflects the concept of a modern school. Light wood, robust exposed concrete, a fresh red color and lots of glass characterize the warm, open atmosphere of the interior. The natural and untreated materials also pay tribute to local building traditions. The reinforced concrete design of the ground floor features a Breton stone facade, while the two-story classroom section in a mixed timber and concrete construction is covered with strips of wood. The clear and structured spatial organization facilitates an ideal workflow.

Residential Building Ex Berardi Area in Brescia, Italy by Camillo Botticini Architects

Friday, February 17th, 2017

Article source: Camillo Botticini Architects

The planning process identifies an architecture that interprets the urban condition in which it appears, taking as generative condition, the new relationship with the southern part of the park Tarello here that the south end towards the street Lamarmora to continue north to street Sostegno. In a context of macro-isolated objects, many with clear vertical characterization, there is the recent intervention by the Forum and Banca Lombarda, which together with the park Tarello, while building a partial urban identity. To strengthen this condition, it is proposed that a fundamental principle the idea of continuity space, where the measure proposed architecture, space and structure compliant reference. The building does not look like an object suspended within a batch but an element that builds the site, integrating coherently open spaces, built spaces and relationships spaces. The extensive scale of the intervention allows, despite its bias, to identify a mode of urban construction that exceeds the factionalism of the atopic background. The architecture is contextualizes alone, in the sense thatarchitecture builds the site, opposing dispersion and peripheralization, extent and identity, without falling into a historicist interpretation of regressive.

San Jacinto Building in Austin, Texas by Specht Architects

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Article source: Specht Architects

The original poured-in-place concrete warehouse in downtown Austin dates from the early 1900s and is a prime example of the type of building that once populated the warehouse district. Built alongside a once active railroad spur, the building was purchased from its original owner who had performed almost no alterations to the 1915 building. The original concrete frame and brick infill building had been in continuous use as an unconditioned storage space and suffered from what we call “benign neglect”—it hadn’t been upgraded, but it hadn’t been messed up, either.

Moholt 50|50 – Timber Towers in Trondheim, Norway by MDH Arkitekter

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Article source: MDH Arkitekter

Student housing often drown in mediocrity, with simple units stacked on top of each other in the cheapest way possible and left to themselves without support programs. The Moholt 50|50 project is a reaction to this. By inserting new housing collectives and a wide range of support services and public programs into an existing student village built in the sixties, a new active central area is created, erasing the psychological border between the student village and the surrounding area.
