Article source: v2com

When it comes to housing, one of the main problems people are facing in most urban areas today – often places of constant growth and raising housing demands – is a need to choose an apartment typology over single-family houses not because of their desire, but out of necessity. Their main concerns can be summed up as following:

2222 Jackson in New York by ODA New York

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

Article source: ODA New York

Just steps from MoMA PS1 in white hot Long Island City Queens, ODA New York is upending the real estate market with an 11-story, 175-unit rental project to rival the best of luxury condo living.

Distinguished by its sculptural, almost pixelated, poured concrete exterior, 2222 Jackson is both an easy material compliment to neighboring PS1, and an exemplar of its designer’s larger mission: Adept at working within—rather than against—zoning constraints, ODA has once again focused on innovating architectural morphology in the interest of improving not only its residents’ everyday experience, but their general quality of life.

10 Logements Sociaux Familiaux Paris 15ème in France by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

Article source: Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

The new building is aligned on rue Castagnary and recedes in an L-shape towards the adjacent building in the north. Its medium scale ensures urban continuity and the density in this quarter. The building is covered by an envelope of white metal blades, consistent with the dominating color of the quarter. Its vocabulary is contemporary and in line with the finesse and attention to detail some housings in the neighborhood. The rhythm of the openings and the large vertical apertures are inspired by Parisian windows.
The ground level and the first three upper floors follow the alignment of the sidewalk but the façade inclines from the last two levels onwards. The height of the building corresponds to the height of its neighboring buildings on rue Castagnary.

Expansion of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) in Canada by OMA

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Article source: OMA

The Pierre Lassonde Pavilion—the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec’s fourth building is interconnected yet disparate—is a subtly ambitious, even stealthy, addition to the city. Rather than creating an iconic imposition, it forms new links between the park and the city, and brings coherence to the MNBAQ.

Refurbishment of a country house in Barcelona, Spain by ARQUITECTURA-G

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Article source: ARQUITECTURA-G

The land where we intervene is a flat and elongated plot of 7.000m2 in the outskirts of Santa Margarida de Montbui. The plot initially had a building for agricultural use in a state of ruin that we were asked to transform into a single-family housing. The building regulations, according to which the pre-existing construction was considered as a farmhouse despite of being just a hut with fibrocement rooftop, didn´t allow any modification in terms of volumetrics and façade openings.

Corporative Montes Urales in Mexico by Pascal Arquitectos

Article source: Pascal Arquitectos

This project is presented like challenge to the traditional corporate image, due to the combination of materials little used in buildings of this type. While the glass gives him the typically elegant image of a building of offices, the partition you intersect with him in the lateral facades, giving him a coloring and a different sensation.

Red Mirror Strips in Seoul, South Korea by MasilWIDE

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: MasilWIDE

In Yeoksam-dong 618-2, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, there is a two story building covered with layers of horizontal mirror strips and vertical red transparency strips. Overlapping transparency and reflection, these layered strips of different materials create a strong visual illusion. Walking along the narrow stair passage between the layers, the visitors may feel dizzy not only because of the optical repetition but because of the trembling of the strips. The stair passage links the ground level to the roof deck changing the ordinary views of typical commercial blocks in Seoul to a phenomenal experience.
