The development plot is unique in that it is located at the intersection of two buildings of very different heights and between two distinct alignments at the street level. This development was an opportunity to create a harmonious dialogue between the vertical and the horizontal planes.
The project at 73 boulevard de la Villette in the 10th arrondissement of Paris comprises 14 units of social housing for the SIEMP and a Mother and Child Welfare Center (Protection Maternelleet Infantile, or PMI) for the Department of Families and Infants (DFPE) of the city of Paris. The integration of the project into the lot demonstrates the intention to set up a building that assimilates the composition with the context, its morphologies and urban specificities, and thus designed as an element that reflects its environment. The building expresses two distinct aspects of reality: Life on the boulevard, and life in the heart of the city block. This duality is developed at various levels of the building’s conception.
The Segmented Building System is an eco-friendly, energy efficient, prefabricated, modular building system. The building components consist of four-foot wide segments that vary in height, and can be delivered to the construction site in pieces, or as assembled profiles. Each of the segments are made of structural insulated foam panels that are connected together to form a floor, walls, and a roof. The configurations of these panels can make full floor, walls, and roof profiles, and/or half floor, wall, and roof profiles. They can be prefabricated with various kinds of exterior cladding such as metal or cement composite boards, and/or they can be clad at the construction site, after the structural panels have been assembled.
The adaptive reuse of Building 18 in Philadelphia’s historic Navy Yard is the latest addition to the award-winning, multi-phased corporate campus MSR has designed for Urban Outfitters. Built in 1904, it is the largest single-story building for an individual brand on the campus. The new office space features, layout, and aesthetic provide an atmosphere where creativity can flourish.
Untitled #7 is a renovation to an old 2-storey apartment at The Arris, located within Tanjong Pagar Area in Singapore.
The original pared-down interior stood in stark contrast with a context consisting of an eclectic mix of shop houses adorned with multiple colours, materials, textures and ornaments: There was a strong division between the interior and the external environment.
The design integrates site, building, and exhibit design in order to create a holistic visitor experience in the forest. A long south facing glass facade brings in light, passive solar energy, and extends the exterior paths through the building from the understory on one end to the tree canopy on the other. An active solar array and a geothermal-based heating and cooling system provide much of the energy needs. Operable windows provide ventilation and bring in the sounds and smells of the forest. Roof water feeds a pond to draw birds and animals for human observation.
Evergrande Huazhi Plaza is a large scale mixed-use development located at the heart of Chengdu, containing retail, office, residential and hotel elements. The shopping mall, The ONE, was recently opened while the hotel, operated under The St Regis brand, and the Evergrande Huazhi Office Tower are already in operations.
