Thursday, April 14th, 2016

Article source: Studio_GAON

At this time when industrial society changes to cultural era, we started this project to turn on the cultural switch by building a building, just as putting a book in a empty shelf. Driving along Gyeongin Expressway to go through Gajwa Interchange, you will meet Gajwa-dong, a town in Incheon, South Korea. This town took sea in the old days.

Island Residence in Honolulu, Hawaii by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Wednesday, April 13th, 2016

Article source: The American Institute of Architects (AIA)

Situated on the Ocean’s coastline at a corner of an ancient fishpond, this private residence reflects the culture of the Hawaiian Islands by embracing its lush surroundings. The clients sought a modern expression that drew inspiration from their Japanese heritage, without being overly imitative or contrived. This influence is often subtle, manifesting itself through an attention to detail, an affinity for craftsmanship, and a delight in natural materials.

Square Amsterdam in Netherlands by LEVS architecten

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Article source: LEVS architecten

On Kop Zuidas in the south of Amsterdam the scaffolding of project Square has been dismantled, revealing the nicely detailed masonry of the outer façade. Square is a compact residential building with 111 mid-market rental apartments. With its on-site restaurant and young inhabitants, Square will serve as a lively center-spot for this new neighborhood between the Rivierenbuurt, RAI and Amstelpark. A linden tree has recently been planted in the inner courtyard, soon to be a showpiece of 8 metres tall. The gate will be enriched with an art piece, a filigree fence with bronze linden branches. At the beginning of May, the new inhabitants will move into their new homes.

Leeghwaterkwartier in Hoofddorp, Netherlands by LEVS architecten

Sunday, April 10th, 2016

Article source:  LEVS architecten

The new neighborhood with single-family homes and apartments is typical for the current restructuring task of post-war housing estates. Right next to the centre of Hoofddorp a 50’s and 60’s district with building strips will be transformed. Urban planning and architecture refer to the classic feeling of a garden village with living in a relaxed setting. The architecture follows the village grain and sober architecture that characterizes the post-war expansions around the centre of Hoofddorp. Green pedestrian courtyards bind the blocks and form the neighborhood. Yet the plan has a high density that appeals to its proximity to the urban centre.

Article source: STANLEY SAITOWITZ │ NATOMA ARCHITECTS INC.

The site is where the elevated 101 Freeway connects to the surface streets at Market and becomes Octavia Boulevard – the entrance to north/west sector of San Francisco. The First Baptist Church with its classical façade and strong cornice is one pylon of this entrance.  Mirroring this mass, on the other side of Octavia Boulevard, 8 Octavia completes the gateway. This entry is seen as an opportunity to present our new city, one that folds tradition and innovation.
