Article source: STUDIO WE

The kindergarden is a solitary building on a green field. Only paths and walls connect the new building to landscape in order to create a subtle and strong texture of reference points within the site.

Lasalle Waterworks Building in Montreal, Canada by Affleck de la Riva architects

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

Article source: Affleck de la Riva architects

The history of civilisations and cities are intrinsically tied to the presence of water.  Ancient civilisations grew up in fertile river valleys and the development of cities depended on the ready availability of water for both potable use and public sanitation.  The infrastructure used to control and distribute water in the urban environment has a long and distinguished architectural history.

REFORMA DIANA CORPORATE BUILDING in Mexico by Arditti + RDT Architects

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

Article source: Arditti + RDT Architects

The Reforma Diana Tower is a state of the art building resulting from the special conditions of the terrain located at Av. Paseo de la Reforma no. 412, near the Diana Cazadora sculpture.
The limitations of this terrain are a maximum height of 40 levels over Reforma and a restricted façade of only 16 meters. Other limitation was the need to respect three back terrace levels to allow the natural light to reach Tokio Street. The building has a total construction surface of 33,800 square meters and a height of 140 metes over the street level.

Living Zero in San Francisco, California by SUSTAINABLE.TO

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: SUSTAINABLE.TO

In 2003, Architecture 2030 was established to respond to rapidly accelerating climate change. This has sparked extraordinary development in the field of renewable energy technology, allowing for buildings to become increasingly energy efficient.
The design intention was to establish the net-zero perspective from the eyes of the occupant. This project proposes a net-zero energy building in every aspect. Not only does the building produce more energy than it consumes through the use of building integrated photovoltaics, but it also attempts to foster a sense of community and a sustainable lifestyle through a vertical tower typology.

AL GADHEER CORPORATE SALES CENTER in DUBAI, United Arab Emirates by MBAD ARQUITECTOS + X ARCHITECTS

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Article source: MBAD ARQUITECTOS+X ARCHITECTS

As an oasis in the desert….interior oasis exterior oasis….just like an illusion….a powerful experience, to use, to be, to stay in, to see….

An oasis is an isolated place of a desert in which we found water and vegetation, that is to say more or less extensive portions of land fertilized by a water source in the middle of sandy grounds. in these places it can have small establishments inhabited; besides giving cultures to the near settlers, they serve to supply to the thirsty travellers and caravans; some times these were confused by optical illusions called mirages.

Harlem Community Rooftop Farm in New York by EOA/Elmslie Osler Architect

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Article source: Elmslie Osler Architect

Access to affordable housing and fresh, healthy food are often scarce in New York City. We have designed the Harlem Community Rooftop Farm to help alleviate the dearth of these basic needs in one Manhattan Neighborhood. This combined affordable housing development and community garden also provides much-needed green space and a reprieve from the busy streets below. This community garden in Harlem redevelops the existing roofscape above Citarella to include farming that is publically accessible via a wide stair leading up from 126th Street. The stair is constructed of concrete and reclaimed redwood marking the transition from sidewalk to elevated garden. Once at the top there is a deck of reclaimed redwood shaded by small fruit trees that leads to a gradual downward slope with spacious low steps and benches for sitting, gathering and observing busy 125th Street. Rooftop planter boxes that are open for use by the community are supplemented by vertical farming walls which are maintained by residents of the affordable housing units in the adjacent building. The vertical farming panels are made of stainless steel and are accessible via balconies running the entire length of the south-west facing façade.

Laufen Forum by Nissen & Wentzlaff Architects BSA SIA AG

Article source: Nissen & Wentzlaff Architects BSA SIA AG

Award „best. architects 11“; „Award 2010 for Marketing + Architecture“: The building is primarily used to present the company’s current products to visitors in a form that not only shows off their appearance but also demonstrates their use. At the same time, the premises are a suitable venue for public events, product presentations and informal gatherings. The two-storey building is designed as a shell, with the central core providing space for storage, the lift and side rooms. Two open, opposed and curved staircases link the ground floor to a gallery with exhibition bays and demonstration bathroom layouts on the upper floor. The atrium at the centre of the building is filled with natural light from small round skylights in the ceiling.
