DI_Telegraph in Moscow, Russia by Archiproba

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

Article source: Archiproba

The Central Telegraph is located on Tverskaya street in the center of Moscow. Architect Ivan Rerberg constructed the building in 1927, and it took only several decades for it to become an architectural monument. The Telegraph has an unusual perimeter structure with both modernist and constructivist features; its surprising geometry and broad glazing distinguishes the building against a background of the Stalinist empire style of that era.

Residential building AATN in Haag am Hausruck, Austria by [tp3] architekten ZT GmbH

Thursday, August 14th, 2014

Article source: [tp3] architekten ZT GmbH

The existing property and residence of postwar years was already rebuilt in the 90ies of the last century. Now it has been extended to an ensemble by an additional building. The open courtyard was completed and the existing garage partially built on. Special attention was paid to the completion of the structure and the employment of corresponding materials.
A particular challenge for the design was the narrow site and the aim not to affect the view of neighboring housing units. The various sights and the path of the sun had a big influence on the concept of the design.

Citadel of Construction in Perugia, Italy by HOFLAB & HOFPRO

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: HOFLAB & HOFPRO

The headquarters of the unified building institutions of the province of Perugia (Centro Edile per la Sicurezza e la Formazione and Cassa Edile) acts as a connecting element within its very heterogeneous semi-peripheral urban context, both typologically and figuratively. This is characterized by a combination of the macroscopic scale, represented by warehouses and shopping structures, and the microscopic one, represented by detached dwellings.

Beast in Austin, USA by Specht Harpman

Friday, August 8th, 2014

Article source: Specht Harpman

This project involved the renovation and adaptive re-use of an existing single-story brick building in downtown Austin.  The structure, built in the 1920’s, housed a wide variety of tenancies through the years, from a mom-and pop grocery store to leasing offices for new downtown condominiums.  The current owner, a creative company involved with film production, was on an extremely limited budget, and wanted to re-use as much of what existed as possible while making something that was uniquely “Austin” in character.

Thursday, August 7th, 2014

Article source: 3+1 architekti

The building of the former stables is part of the farming complex founded  around 1870. Size and location of the building is the key to the layout of the whole farm. Along with similarly large barn on the southern edge of the property it defines large yard area and establishes the complex scale, which is larger compared to the surrounding residential development.

VDAB Office Building in Sint Niklaas, Belgium by BOB361 Architects

Sunday, August 3rd, 2014

Article source: BOB361 Architects

Considering the urban anchoring of the site, the angles of this building block are the regulating elements. The VDAB-project anchors itself with the existing context on the corner of the Noordlaan-Drie Koningenstraat, which is in direct relation with various public functions (post, ministry of finances), located near the main road. It is an intuitive meeting point located on a wide footpath. The second angle is the location for a possible extension and is at present, included in the project’s garden.

Saturday, August 2nd, 2014

Article source: HUB

The ‘Fabriek’, located on a corner in Schaerbeek bordering Noordwijk is renovated into the home base for the organisation Art Basics for Children. The location of the old industrial complex is characteristic of the friction between the corporate office environment of Noordwijk and the heterogeneous urban fabric of Schaerbeek. The underlying goal of the renovation of the ‘Fabriek’ is to allow space for ABC to work in this urban field of tension between the corporate and socio-cultural environment surrounding the site.
