Saturday, August 2nd, 2014

Article source: HUB

The ‘Fabriek’, located on a corner in Schaerbeek bordering Noordwijk is renovated into the home base for the organisation Art Basics for Children. The location of the old industrial complex is characteristic of the friction between the corporate office environment of Noordwijk and the heterogeneous urban fabric of Schaerbeek. The underlying goal of the renovation of the ‘Fabriek’ is to allow space for ABC to work in this urban field of tension between the corporate and socio-cultural environment surrounding the site.

Gomba, Móricz Zsigmond körtér, in Budapest, Hungary by Hetedik Műterem Ltd.

Thursday, July 31st, 2014

Article source: Hetedik Műterem Ltd

The construction of the transportation-related building on Móricz Zsigmond Circus, Budapest was completed in 1943, according to the design of József Schall; and because of its shape later it was identified as the “Mushroom” by the word of mouth. Originally a departure building, cash- and waiting room and a café were placed in three building sectors under the roof with a ring-shaped layout. A fountain stood in the middle of the ring (stone relief by László Szomor). Shortly after its completion the building was roughly converted, transformers were placed into one of its circle sectors. The structure has started to be a slum-like environment already in the ’70s. For its particular spatial space composition and extremely slim reinforced concrete details it has been recorded as a listed building under monumental protection since 1997.

White or visible light can be split into monochromatic beams of light by passing it through an obstacle that forces the different waves which make up white light to travel at different speeds. This is the concept from which this small building developed.

Logistica La Lunera in Soriano, Uruguay by Nicolas Pinto da Mota

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

Article source: Nicolas Pinto da Mota

Building a utilitarian building marked the direction of this project.

That is why the whole strategy turned around the prefiguration of a traditional typology. The different elements of the composition, galleries, sloping roofs, metal enclosures, are the typical components that qualify this type of buildings in this place.

Parlement Francophone Bruxellois in Brussels, Belgium by SKOPE

Friday, July 18th, 2014

Article source: SKOPE

The new program includes: the seat of Brussels Parliament (PFB : French speaking part) and the restoration of the former Postal Relay (Renaissance 1694) as a polyvalent space. It would have been risky to chose the easy way by the creation of a mimetic building right wing of The Parliament or propose a dissonant solution with a draft bill only contemporary. Skope’s approach was different; inspired by the history of the place while assuming contemporary issues.
