SOCIAL HOUSING in Bergen, Norway by Rabatanalab (Rocco Salomone)

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

Article source: Rocco Salomone (Rabatanalab)

The project area is situated in a unique area of Bergen in Norway. Located just outside the historic city centre on the south side of Store Lungegårdsvannet near the Møllendal River, the site has a long history as an industrial area, including milling back to the Middle Ages, and storage for the city’s technical department in recent times. Much of the Møllendal area has for decades been inaccessible and unsuited for public use so making a fracture between two parts of the town. The project aims to reconnect and to give continuity to a new territory exploring transitions between land and water; the goal is to create the conditions for regenerating the area into an attractive and active waterfront neighborhood.

The practice of orienting a home to the path of the sun is as old as civilization itself, and in nature, significantly predates it.  Just as plants and flowers orient themselves to the sun through phototaxis, the newest building designed by ODA New York, appears to be doing the same.

Article source: Gianluca Milesi Architecture

“The shape of mind (synapses) creates unexpected perspectives on sites: architecture is not the perfection of the experience (wisdom) or just a representation, but is the capability to produce images, the virtue of a person who learned to imagine and to push his or her imagination further”.

Umaid Heritage by Design Atelier

Wednesday, March 9th, 2016

Article source: Design Atelier

Umaid Heritage Elevation controls require the use of local Jodhpur stone to be expressed as the primary building material.

Design Atelier worked out various elements for stone construction, for expression in screens, blocks and flutes to build a contemporary form that responds to the high sun and which gives the form an unusual presence in light. Natural stone preserves the unique local character, adds to the aesthetic appeal of stability, grandeur and continuity of style in the construction. Not only is local stone sustainable, its versatility of use, enduring life cycle, low maintenance and 100% recyclable qualities qualify it as a useful green material.
