Cultural Center in Katowice, Poland by PA+U Rafał Mazur

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

Article source: PA+U Rafał Mazur

The cultural center is located in the Dab district of Katowice in Poland –  an area known for mines and industry. The concept of the building links two  important aspects of the site. A green space connection is made from the  northern end traditional Silesian street to the southern border. The edge  between the building and green space is invisible. The roof in the plan of a  ‘Z’ shape rises from the ground level to two floors. The sectional form is  inspired by mines, as all of the programmatic utilities are located  ‘underground’. The building at the street level is integrated to promote  urban interaction.

TAICHUNG GETAWAY CITY CULTURAL CENTER by MenoMenoPiu Architects & Atelier Castro Denissof

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

Article source: MenoMenoPiu Architects

“The Taichung City Cultural Center will be a hub of knowledge, art and inspiration; an opportunity to elevate Taiwan’s high cultural reputation and to revive the city due to the high number of visitors it will attract “.

Our proposal for the Taichung city cultural center is to create a gradient urban limit in which two programs join together over the main perspective axes, creating a 200m door for the Taichung Getaway Park.

Conversion of the Fosses 9/9 BIS pit site in Oignies by Hérault Arnod Architects

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

Article source: Hérault Arnod Architects

The Oignies pit closed down in 1990, leaving a whole population out of work and in great economic hardship. The buildings, superb industrial monuments dating from the early 20th century, remained. What was to be done with them? Apart from the heritage component, what sort of development strategy would be best for the site?

NEW NATIONAL ARCHIVES in Paris, France by Studio Fuksas

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Article source: Studio Fuksas

The project of the New National Archives of France draws its inspiration from the surrounding reality, from the city seen as coexistence of chaos and order. The concept is born and takes place from this duality which is reflected in the organization of the complex.

Cultural Center of EU Space Technologies in Vitanje, Slovenia by dekleva gregoric arhitekti

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Article source: dekleva gregoric arhitekti

The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) will substantially supplement and emphasize the local cultural and social activities of the former Community Center in Vitanje, the town in Slovenia that was family home to Herman Potocnik Noordung, the first theoretician of space. The program includes additional cultural (exhibitions, events) and scientific activities (research, conferences) strongly connected to the phenomena of ‘culturalisation of the space’. The building features a series of interlocking rings that lie on top of each other to create a continuous ramped structure.
