Boise 8th Street Cultural District in Boise, Idaho by Morgan Maiolie

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

Article source: Morgan Maiolie

This project looks at what makes Boise unique and builds upon those elements to create a cultural district that promotes Boise as a place. The Boise 8th Street Cultural District design embraces sustainability as a form generator. Green roofs, downtown agriculture, solar access, and responsible water use combined to form the project. The district’s highest priority is to be of and for Boise, because there is nothing more sustainable than a beautiful, lively, city where people will want to walk, bike, create, and live.

Changsha Meixihu International Culture & Art Centre in China by Zaha Hadid Architects

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

The International Culture & Arts Centre embodies a unique variety of civic nodes and spaces: A Grand Theatre, a Contemporary Art Museum, a Multipurpose Hall and supporting facilities. The central plaza is generated by the relative position of these separate buildings and offers a strong urban experience whereby the flow of pedestrian visitors that come from all sides of the site intersect and meet. In parallel it also stretches outwards to the neighboring streets with unfettered and phenomenal views across Meixi lake with access towards Festival Island.

Article source: Ghigos Ideas

Lago Maggiore Casalinghi and Ghigos Ideas officially present the new collection “Apparecchiare la città”. The collection is not realized by a unique company, but by a wide network of production firms that represent one of the most historical Italian district production lines. Changing the usual prospective and opening up to experimentation, these companies valorize their specific manufacturing culture, putting them into a common project, as testimonial of the intelligence and the creativity of Made in Italy.

NIARA in Valladolid, Spain by Amas4arquitectura

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Article source: Amas4arquitectura

The Niara Sports Club needed a place of its own for its activities. After finding a suitable site in an easily accessible, outlying residential area with a low population density, the Schola Foundation decided to concentrate a large number of its activities into a single building, thus fulfilling a number of complex requirements that included an educational and recreational area for children at two different stages of development- “small” and “big” children; a separate area for parents’ meetings and activities, an area for offices, a residential area, and a block of independent services. All of the above were laid out around the chapel which, together with the sports complex, is the nucleus of the centre.
