A Mobile Italian Garden in London, England by The Decorators

Tuesday, January 13th, 2015

Article source: The Decorators

A Mobile Italian Garden transforms the terrace at Alexandra Palace into a welcoming area with exceptional views over the city.

Drawing inspiration from the architecture of the palace, the proposal breaks the monumental proportions of the main building to meet visitors with a more intimate scale on their first encounter with Alexandra Palace. The theatricality of the terraced view is accentuated by the enclosed viewing amphitheater to contemplate the surrounding landscape: bringing to stage the gardens and the city of London in the background.

Article source: OGAWASEKKEI

This project is to create a gallery and office-living space for a landscape architect by renovating a rental property of two-story wooden building located at a short distance from central part of Gifu city by Nagara River. Since this is a rental property, the renovation is focused on finishing of wall, floor, and ceiling rather than changing plan or section plans to create a space. The first floor will be the gallery and the second floor will be the office-living space.

Dressing Room for a Garden with a Pond in Tarragona, Spain by Clara Nubiola

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

Article source: Clara Nubiola

This project started some time ago. Close relatives brought up the idea of constructing a wc/changing room in the garden. A place to change in and out of a bathing suit since the pond is used as a pool, thus avoiding having to go to the house in order to get changed. A place also to wash one’s hands after the “calçotades” that have already been established as a winter tradition. Pen, paper and inspection of the area to decide where would we place it.

Garden Bridge in London, England by Heatherwick Studio

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

Article source: Heatherwick Studio

Following Transport for London’s (TfL) tender for proposals to improve pedestrian links across the river, Heatherwick Studio and actor and campaigner Joanna Lumley have developed an idea for a new pedestrian ‘Garden Bridge’ across the River Thames; a scheme to connect North and South London with a garden. As one of the greenest cities of its size in the world, this precious new piece of landscape will add to London’s rich and diverse horticultural heritage of heathlands, parks, squares, allotments and community gardens and support many indigenous river edge plant species.

  • Software used:
    • Rhinoceros 3d + Grasshopper an advanced computational modeling tool. We used optimization algorithms to reduce the types of components, the software calculated the length of each flower box side reducing the number of variations. The parametric approach was crucial to find the best oriented production design. The roar was thus chosen as base module, in that it offered a good coverage of the space whilst optimizing the number of components. The base modules are six, from 0.5 sqm to 3 sqm, formed by the combination of 4 different cuts which then compose the sides of the planters, 8 different nodes with as many optimized variations for the joining of the elements. The result is a total area of 300 square meters, consisting of 50 modules and 90 nodal elements.
