Giacomuzzi house is a duplex building. It is conceived as a highly compact body to fulfill energy issues and it fits into the sloping terrain to exploit the landscape. The house is oriented towards the path of the sun and overlooks a stunning sight. The site is located on the outskirts of the village Caldaro sulla strada del vino, where between the house and the lake Caldaro there are just fields and vineyards. To show up this wonderful view, a continuous wall closes three sides of the building, whereas the south facade features wide windows and balconies.

Police station in Barcelona, Spain by MIZIEN

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Article source: MIZIEN

Like many towns in El Vallès, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, Palau-solità has tripled its population since the 1980s and extended by means of single-family houses and low-rise apartment blocks. In this context, a public building may be designed to give the main streets in the fabric an urban, civic character or to fit in with the series of warehouses, shopping centres and franchises that form the periphery of this sprawling urbanization.

Steckelhörn 11 in Hamburg, Germany by J. Mayer H. Architects

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Article source: J. Mayer H. Architects

The project “Steckelhörn 11” is located in the old centre of Hamburg, close to the prominent new “Hafen City” development. It replaces a ruinous building and fills the gap between two historic premises. The triangular-shaped lot stretches across the city block, thus allowing for a narrow façade of about 1.3 m width facing the harbor and a main elevation of about 26.4 m oriented toward Steckelhörn street. The vertical design and soft setbacks of the latter pay tribute to the massing of the surrounding structures, as well as to local building-height regulations.

Forest Stair in Stokke, Norway by Saunders Architecture (designed using ArchiCAD)

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Article source: Saunders Architecture

This sculptural installation was designed for the Sti For Øye sculpture park in Stokke, set amongst the Vestfold oak forest to the south of Oslo. Working alongside landscape architect and professor Rainer Stange in order to create the infrastructure for a woodland walk past a series of artists’ installations, Saunders proposed a series of steel and wooden walkways set at the highest point of the site, looking east towards Slottsfjellet, or castle rock. The design plays with the idea of an artificially facilitated foray up above the forest floor, an elevated viewpoint that would otherwise be unavailable to the visitor.

Bridge Studio in Newfoundland, Canada by Saunders Architecture

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Article source: Saunders Architecture

As with all the Fogo Island Arts Corporation’s Art Studios, Bridge Studio is paired with a traditional Newfoundland Saltbox house, this one is located in Deep Bay, the smallest community on Fogo Island with a population of one hundred and fifty people. The Bridge Studio’s Saltbox House is a freshly painted, in sharp contrast to its dilapidated condition, only a few months previous. A local carpenter who is putting the finishing touches on the house, points out the project’s double-hung, wood frame windows that were crafted at the local woodshop, initiated and operated by the Shorefast Foundation.
