Rock Creek House in Washington D.C. by NADAAA

Saturday, March 25th, 2017

Article source: NADAAA

The Rock Creek House is an adaptive re-use project of a 1920’s brick structure that was originally composed of two floors, with a mechanical basement and attic. This adaptation leverages the robustness of the existing structure to capture the attic and basement to double the house’s size, while expanding its functions into the landscape.

MON factory / house in Kyoko- City, Japan by EASTERN design office

Friday, March 24th, 2017

Article source: EASTERN design office

The holes are lined up on a cross shape. The hole is made on the architecture like the perforated line. This architecture is “House with Crest”.

A light that penetrates into the architecture always moves and never stays. It is a symbolical spectacle. A light that goes through the hole is projected in a circle shape, moves unlimitedly, and never stays. Occasionally, it disappears, and it appears.

Behind the somewhat mysterious name ‘Project X’, hides the design of René van Zuuk and his family’s own residence. The villa with a small office space is located next to the architect’s former residence Psyche, in Almere’s The Fantasy district, an area for experimental housing. His old house now serves as the architects office since 2004, it occurred that the two plots could be consolidated into one garden. Article source: Vo Trong Nghia Architects

This is a residential house located in Gialai city, central Vietnam. The site is 7-meters wide and 40-meters deep, and is one of the typical lots for “tube house”, a traditional typology for residences in the province.

In this house, the long corridor, which is an unavoidable factor for tube houses to connect bedrooms, is transformed into a continuous and sequential space to serve the functions of living and dining spaces, as well as an “outdoor living” space.

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Article source: v2com

The young Montreal firm faced a major challenge when it was mandated to renovate this duplex located in Villeray from A to Z. Its new and singular appearance distinguishes it from others in the neighborhood and forms a bridge between past and present.

The residence, located in a socially effervescent neighborhood, had everything to please the young owners except a bright living space, adapted to their needs. With its finesse and expertise, the team gave a new lease of life to the duplex’s existing structure, now transformed into a single-family dwelling. The entire exterior façade, as well as the interior design, were fully revitalized while respecting their original style.

Social housing in Palma, Spain by studio RIPOLLTIZON

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Article source: studio RIPOLLTIZON

The project is located in ‘Pere Garau’ neighbourhood. The area was formerly characterized by blocks of single family houses with inner courtyards that followed a typical grid plan. Once the district became central in the city, amendments to the urban planning increased the building volumes significantly and changed the typology to collective housing. The project takes part of this transformation by redefining a corner plot, resulting from the addition of two former houses, into a new public housing building.
