Villa View Vriezenveen in Netherlands by Zecc Architecten BV

Friday, July 24th, 2015

Article source: Zecc Architecten BV

This remarkable residential property is a prime example of how the Dutch landscape is being transformed. Historic farmhouses are making way for new, artificial ones or abstract dwellings. The land itself is increasingly being used for recreational purposes rather than for agriculture. Where, in the past, houses were screened from their surroundings, a good view is now regarded as an attractive feature of any house.

1.8M Width House in Tokyo, Japan by YUUA Architects and Associates

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015

Article source: YUUA Architects and Associates

A house where light shines in and fresh air flows between the floating floors.

The size of the property is approximately width 2.5m and depth 11m.  This small and narrow piece of land is a typical “eels’ bed” site, where one can reach his/her arm from left wall to right wall even though buildings stand very tight and compact next to one another.  We have tried to reserve as much space as possible as well as to provide psychological openness for the resident.  The house has been designed to follow the concept “A house with playfulness where people and cats live happily”.

Expansion of Commercial District and Destiny of Residential Area
In between Apgujeong-dong where the middle class gathered and high tech business town Samsung-dong with Teheran-ro as a center, Cheongdam-dong remained in relatively quiet residential area but alleys are gradually changing in the aftermath of surrounding commercial district. Other than having great market value of apartment and land and advantage of school district in this town, it still has good residential environment, but despite of thorough city planning like district units plan, it has possibility of threatening the residents as target of unwanted commercial district.

Article source: CAVAA Arquitectes

These Vilanova dwellings with load-bearing walls structure were initially defined  as a  disorganized house without hierarchies of spaces, where the stays on the center of the house were “punished”  for its corridor, causing that the rooms were just open to the communal staircase and to a small inner courtyard.

Casa Sur Ual in Vella, Switzerland by Christian Müller Architects

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015

Article source: Christian Müller Architects

Villages in the Alpine Region are threatened with being turned into ghost towns. This is being caused by a number of factors. The present building stock has a large portion of second homes which is hardly being used. The amenities offered do not live up to modern standards and there is preciously little room to build new houses. A project by Christian Müller in the Swiss village of Vella is a showcase of how this development can be countered with innovative concepts.

Hidalga House in Mexico by Grupoarquitectura

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015

Article source:  Grupoarquitectura

This residence is located in a mountain slope surrounded by trees in a forest near Mexico City. It was of utmost importance not to tear down any trees in such a privileged site. This translated in a forced floor plan design, always attempting to avoid disturbing the trees. Because of site’s sloping terrain, access is through the top level through a welcoming foyer. This foyer is located within a connecting structure that unites the two main buildings, the first one being the main building that houses all public rooms such as dining room living room, library room and bedrooms, all enjoying views of the garden; and a second supporting structure aligned with the street that houses service areas such as laundry room, storage and service areas.
