Bal House in Menlo Park, California by Terry & Terry Architecture

Wednesday, November 4th, 2015

Article source: v2com

This project consists of a single-story addition and renovation to an existing mid-century ranch house in Menlo Park, California.

Conceived for a retired couple, the open and accessible design integrates the living space with the rear garden to create a well-lit domestic extension. Comprised of two floating volumes, the addition formally designates the bedroom to the west and the main (common) space to the east. The two wings gradually diverge from the original structure to generate a glass-clad fissure in between. This void space pulls the garden inwards, injecting elements of the outdoors into the core of the house.

Student accommodation in Hagenberg, Austria by TWO IN A BOX – ARCHITEKTEN ZT GMBH

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015

Article source: TWO IN A BOX – ARCHITEKTEN ZT GMBH

Student accommodation at Hagenberg – a studying and living environment of the highest quality. A new generation of student accommodation will open soon nearby Campus Hagenberg, Upper Austria. The TWO IN A BOX Architekten rely on prime quality. The concept of having separate showers, a communal fridge filled with food beyond expiry date or of sharing a 15 m2 big, early 80s style room with a room mate has been completely outdated.

Villa S in Bergen, Norway by Saunders Architecture

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Article source:  Saunders Architecture

Describing his latest project, a house for his own family in a leafy suburb of Bergen, Todd Saunders says, ‘It’s like three sticks, stacked on top of each other.’ At a stretch, the analogy holds – the house is composed of three woodclad elements, one vertical, two horizontal – but it’s far more accurate to describe it as a strictly functional composition.

The site is surrounded by rice field where wind blows through well.

This is one of the areas with much quantity of wind-generated electricity in Japan, and this project is based on the concept of “wind”.

Planning is layout corridor of the ring shape as an image that wind around and each room volume as blade of the windmill.

Consequently, even while maintaining the independence, there is a sense of unity through the corridor and courtyard.
