Fuensanta House in Ciudad Real, Spain by MUKA ARQUITECTURA

Friday, February 13th, 2015

Article source: MUKA ARQUITECTURA

On an urban context, in the center of a row-house type block, we were commissioned to build a single house. The plot is located in the southern area of Ciudad Real, in the last growth ring of the city that has not been developed due to the economic crisis of recent years. Our proposal is the first one to emerge in this area from an urban void without any context. There are not surrounding houses, typological references or architectural legacy that could serve at some point as an architectural tool in the design of the house.

HAUS FÜR JULIA UND BJÖRN in Austria by Innauer-Matt Architekten

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Article source: Innauer-Matt Architekten

The new house, clamped between a lime tree and a walnut tree, comfortably completes the small hamlet in which it is situated. Due to the inclination and the narrow nature of the premises, the clear layering of the building follows the contour lines and makes use of the sloping ground.

A’ House in Tokyo, Japan by Wiel Arets, Satoru Umehara, Alex Kunnen

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Article source: Wiel Arets, Satoru Umehara, Alex Kunnen

This compact private residence is nestled within the dense expanse of Tokyo, in Nishi-Azabu—a neighborhood characterized by narrow streets and traditional low-rise houses—which borders a park heavily visited during the spring, when the city’s cherry trees begin to bloom. Its 136-square-meter area consists of five horizontally divided spaces, each connected by a minuscule sculptural spiraling staircase that, given the footprint of the house, allows for loft-like spaces within its intimate confines. Oversized windows punctuate the house, each with two layers of glazing; one is transparent and one is of the same relief glass that wraps the façade. These oversized windows, with their dual layers of glazing, can be countlessly reconfigured, to regulate the interior flow of daylight.

This space was originally an above part of the bedroom (at the 3rd floor) of the old mansion which is set up many technical systems (electric system, water system, and air-conditioner), and this part is quite high. We have added one more floor in order to divide its height into two parts with the aim of creating to an additional floor (meanwhile, the underneath bedroom is still assured its height) for the purpose of the warehouse.

TERMITARY HOUSE in Da Nang City, Vietnam by Tropical Space Co.,Ltd

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015

Article source: Tropical Space Co.,Ltd

The Termitary House was built in Da Nang, a central coastal city of Viet Nam. The climate in this area is rather extreme in the way it varies significantly between the sunny season and the rainy one. It is also influenced by a lot of tropical storms every year. Besides, Da Nang is well-known for the remains of Champa baked-brick Towers (during the Ancient Champa Kingdom), constructed during the time from the 4th century to the late 15th century. Of all, “Mỹ Sơn” Holy land is the most well-known.

Vertical Court in Greenbank Park, Singapore by HYLA Architects

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015

Article source: HYLA Architects

A courtyard on two levels sits in the centre of this semi-detached house. On the first level, a frangipani tree sits in the middle of a pond, framed by a timber clad box. The double volume living room and the dining room wraps around this courtyard. The second storey level of the courtyard lies over the dining area and in front of the master bedroom. The full height glass facade facing the courtyard is screened by interlocking vertical and horizontal timber members. The courtyard offers the house a lot of privacy as well as letting in light into the cetnre of the house. It also acts as a buffer against noise from a major road a distance away.

At the edge of the forest, between a valley and a grassy marsh, the Panorama house is a refined interpretation of the traditional cottage, complete with pitched metal roof and dark-stained Eastern cedar shingles.
