offSET Shed House in New Zealand by Irving Smith Jack Architects

Tuesday, August 25th, 2015

Article source: Irving Smith Jack Architects

From a context of accrued simple shed-esk dwellings in an isolated and south facing New Zealand coastal surf community, a strategy of sequencing building ‘sets’ (aka surf) was generated to scale new form to its surrounds. New ‘shed’ sets are then offset to allow seasonal living, circulation, and privacy options and for variations in wind and sun exposure.

Friday, August 21st, 2015

Article source: Rocco Arquitetos

This project is a renovation of a 1940’s house in the city of São Paulo. The client, a single woman, wanted a more free an fluid space, so almost all of the first floor internal walls were removed. In order to do so, without having to include any sort of beam (iron or concrete) under the slab, a suspended beam was installed on top of the second floor (under the roof). It was attached to a built in rod. So, part of the first floor structure was held by this hidden beam.

An office, a warehouse, plus a residence for family expansion.

The height difference between the two allows placing the programs in an alternate way to each extreme of the plot, closing the house from its direct context. Victoria Park, E9 in British Columbia by Scenario Architecture

Tuesday, August 18th, 2015

Article source: Scenario Architecture

The property is a two storey semi-detached house post war constrcution in the middle of a row of terrace houses. Our clients, a young couple, came to us to redesign the ground floor as the previous layout was not suitable for their style of living. The areas were dark and segragated and they ended up not using them at all. The house had previously a rear poorly made and non-insulated conservatory raised three steps from the rear garden, and a rear extension with ancillary spaces.
