The Interactive Sliced House by michael jantzen studio

Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

Article source: michael jantzen studio

The Interactive Sliced House is part of the House as a Metaphor series of public art installations that play with the iconic house shape in a variety of abstracted contexts, juxtaposing the house with other recognizable symbols. Minimal and conceptual, these structures are meant to interrogate the meaning and function of the house by exploring how simple interventions affect its interpretation. In this case, the intervention consists of a series eight segments (or slices) that make up the entire shape of the symbolic house. Two of the slices at either end of the house are solid forms except for a doorway located at the center, both of these slices are fixed to a concrete pad. The other six slices in between the solid forms are open frame silhouettes that can be moved on tracks (mounted into the concrete pad) back and forth in and out of alignment with the two ends of the structure. In this way, the entire shape of the house can be changed by fragmenting it in many different ways in order to form very unexpected spaces in and around the structure.

Silver Wood House in Portugal by Ernesto Pereira

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Article source: Ernesto Pereira

“Simply … the SilverWoodHouse … any attempt to adjectives falls short of the final experience of contemplation … congratulations and thanks Ernesto”

These were the words of my clients Rui and Marisa when asked about SilverWoodHouse. I could not be more impressed by the answer, on my way to see the architecture. A challenge, an interpretation, a creation, by me, not for me, but for someone.

House in Mouraria, Portugal by José Andrade Rocha

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Article source: José Andrade Rocha

This house in the historic neighbourhood of Mouraria, Lisbon, suffered many transformations over the years that compartmentalised the space. The relation with the street was under explored and the connections between social and private areas were ambiguous.
The intervention aimed to open the social area to the street, uniting the living room and the kitchen in a gesture that occupies the whole extension of the façade, protecting the bedrooms and allowing serenity or agitation in distinct moments.

Maple House in Cañete Province, Peru by Martín Dulanto Sangalli

Saturday, March 7th, 2015

Article source: Martín Dulanto Sangalli

This project is part of a personal exploration in which the house is designed as a big solid block, which has been excavated to create spaces within.

This particular construction is a “white box”, which has received several “cuts” through these we are able to appreciate the interior. In between the different volumes the inside has been designed to generate indoor living spaces with different characteristics.

The architectural project for this house consists of two main volumes; ground floor and superior floor.

The ground floor embraces the architectural program of the house and is organized by a longilineal volume that incorporates all of the wet areas; two bathrooms, kitchen and laundry room. This main volume stretches along the whole extension of the house, parallel to the lateral border and demarcating the end and initial point of the terrain.

HOUSE IN ESTORIL in Lisbon, Portugal by TARGA atelier

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

Article source: TARGA atelier

The House in Estoril refurbishment project has taken as starting point the pre-existing layout with some relevant spatial qualities deserving to be preserved and explored. Conversely, it was necessary  to adapt the house to contemporary life, to become functional and in line with the expectable comfort requirements. The central area is assumed as the aggregator element, minimalist and debugged, using the stairs as a  continuous and fluid gesture, to link the two clearly distinct floors: the ground floor gathering the social areas of the house, is quite fluid and all the adjacent defining spaces establish a complementary relationship with the square central hall. The bookcase intersects the volumetry and provides a more human scale opposing to the organic line of the guard. The main entrance releases  the discovery of a large space with double height and surrounding areas (living room and dining room at opposite ends) and leads to the kitchen which gained new proportions and closes the last side of the square. The “1st” floor functions as a walking gallery to provide access to the rooms, peeking over the lobby. The colors and materials were selected with the primary aim of emphasizing the simplicity of the new geometry design and promoting pre-existing qualities

Hampton/Queenslander house renovation in Brisbane, Australia by Baahouse + Baastudio

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

Article source: Baahouse + Baastudio

Set amongst a leafy hilly area in Brisbane’s inner city suburb Norman Park, Greg Taylor and Hayley Lewis approached Baahouse + BaaStudio to assist them for ideas and planning in renovating their existing 1880’s Queenslander family home. Their existing house is typical of many Queenslanders, whilst they have some aesthetically pleasing features’, the house was hidden from the street down a dark path, leading to a small cold house requiring a lot of upkeep and maintenance to bring it up to today’s modern living standards. Adding to the fact the house was cold and dark, there were many unusable spaces that could not be utilised, and the dining and lounge family areas were cramped and small.
