“House with four houses” in Portugal by Prod architecture & design

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Article source: Prod architecture & design

This holiday house for a family of four is located in the north of Portugal. It’s shape is defined by the same number of individual volumes. They have similar dimensions but distinct orientations. Three of the volumes are orthogonally organized around a core, whilst a fourth rotates to match the direction of an existing neighbouring building. The proximity between the two constructions led to a desired dialogue. The modest dimensions of the existing building determined the scale of the house while the vernacular identity influenced its layout. Each volume has a two slope roof. Besides emphasizing its individuality it enabled to increase the plasticity of the composition.

Article source: A2OFFICE

This project presents a rehabilitation of an 19th century old building with an unusual triangle-shaped planimetry, with an deployment area of only 52m², following a housing program consisting of 4 lofts in open space.

This condition has determined much of the interior spatial organization solution, where a new staircase plays a major role.

The facade colors have been restored, with new frames. The wooden structure of the floors was maintained and strengthened.

Upstairs, the original volumetry of the building was restored, revealing a small terrace that crowns the intervention.

Surrounding environment

Rebuilding of a house at Nihonbashi-Ningyo-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

The house is built near the main street, and there are many old and new restaurants and shops around here. Almost all of the buildings has shops on the 1st floor, and houses or offices on the upper floor. There are many medium-size apartments and offices on the south of this site, so this site cannot get enough sunlight. Many four-storied of buildings are densely built in this area, so we have to consider about getting light and breeze well.

Casa Decor 2015 – KAZUO Suite in Madrid, Spain by Egue y Seta

Article source: Egue y Seta

KAZUO Suite

If dreaming is like traveling, why do we have to come back home at dusk? With their latest promotional space for 2015´s edition of Casa Décor, Kazuo Suite, the Spanish interior architecture studio Egue y Seta want to give us the chance to keep on traveling after sleep, to offer the opportunity of going to bed in the middle of garden blossoming under dark inked oriental strokes, and a place to commence each and every day amidst vegetal reflections of a somehow “Shinto” calling. This is a space that poses a fluid, cyclic and infinite circulation path, around premises that host our most private moments; a room where intimacy is shared with nature, where the outdoors invades the very heart of the built environment and a realm where light travels unceasingly through transparencies and mirrors up until the moment, when we decide to, once again, close our eyes for the night.
