Modern house in Vilagarcía de Arousa, Spain by Nan arquitectos

Wednesday, August 13th, 2014

Article source: Nan arquitectos

“I would like a modern and cheap house for lease”

During the first meeting with the sponsor, the requirements for the house were clear, but a “modern house” is not the best way to start with the project definition. We were looking for a low- cost house that could satisfy the requirements from an ephemeral user. For that, we’ve chosen the simplicity of the design, distribution and construction.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Article source: Studio Gil

Situated in Mile End, East London, Studio Gil were commissioned by the owner of a Victorian terraced house within a conservation area to look at options for creating an extension towards the rear of the property and improved remodelling of the existing interior spaces. The proposed solution consisted of creating an ‘infill’ rear extension with connecting views right throughout the house, whilst also creating a physical connection with the existing rear garden.

FRAME in Nakano, Japan by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Article source: APOLLO Architects & Associates

For FRAME, a low cost and short construction period were realized by substituting regular wooden frameworks for exposed concrete with FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) that can be converted.

This house, with a studio for a husband who is a fashion photographer, is located in an area with flooding risks from torrential rains. Therefore, the entrance level is raised by 800 mm. The studio level on the first floor is lowered to maintain the ceiling height.

Casa Gallardo in Mexico DF, Mexico by AT103

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Article source: AT103

Located in one of the most important historical areas in Mexico City, on a narrow site (7.00 x 25.00 meters) that has an entrance to another site at the end, this house responds to the specific characteristics and legal constrains of its milieu.

After different volumetric studies, one on solar impact determined that the house be transformed from one with a single-line body into an S-shaped one. The S shape allowed for the permeable area of the house to be distributed between two patios; it also generated, at the same time, an open area and light and ventilation inlets.

Casa P in Forlì, Italy by AUS Pasini Ranieri

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: AUS Pasini Ranieri

The quiet Matteotti Village, a suburban residential neighborhood of little one-story houses with a small yard and a kitchen-garden, was planned and implemented in the 1930s with the ominous name of Mussolini Village adopting pseudo-rural typologies and using autarchic materials. Few steps away from House D, implemented by Pasini and Ranieri five years before, House P is extended starting from an identical existing building and in accordance with prescriptive ground figures in the planning codes.

HOUSE-K in Tokyo, Japan by K2YT

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: K2YT

The site is situated amidst the densely packed residential area in Tokyo. Whilst being on a south west corner of the block having frontages to two streets, the elevated railway on the north posed issues of noise and vibration. The corner location offered opportunities for capturing light and air, but the contradiction was that doing so will call for mitigation of noise.

Article source: HUB

The Skatchkoff Residence is a detached passive-solar house at the edge of the centre of Kortrijk. The design brings two nostalgic elements into crystal clear form: the saw-tooth structure of the local textile industry and the wooden structure of the dacha of the client’s homeland, Russia.
