Grant Place in Queensland, Australia by Absolut Custom Glass Systems

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Article source: Absolut Custom Glass Systems

The brief from the client was to create a fresh, resort style family home.

Due to the warm climate, the extraordinary amount of sunny days on the Gold Coast and the property’s location on the regions Riviera it was important to spread as much of the living area to outside as possible. At the same time, it was just as important to blend the outdoor and the internal area together with the extensive use of toughened clear glass. Glass pool fencing helps to create a true resort style residence whilst not compromising on the intimacy that the owner should feel with their home. The house looks out over the waterway system that attracts so many people to the area, making it possible to park your car out the front of the house and have your boat docked in the backyard. The river system is a network of waterways that link the entire region together and, for most small boats, allows access to the ocean.

RØLDAL CABIN in Norway by REIULF RAMSTAD ARKITEKTER

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Article source: REIULF RAMSTAD ARKITEKTER

The Røldal family vacation home is recognisable for its compact, defined and geometric shape. The objective of preserving as much of the surrounding landscape possible as a high priority resulted in the design of two volumes: a small cabin and an annex, that keep a dialogue with the encompassing nature. Dividing the structures also answers to the need of a high flexibility and to accommodate dierent family compositions in separate spaces. The articulated section is adapted to the steep terrain and is assigned to create interconnected floors and capture the views of both the forest and the hillside.

Captain’s House in Shohola, Pennsylvania by Bromley Caldari Architects PC

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Article source: Bromley Caldari Architects PC

The client, a retired Army captain, asked us to design an urban loft on a steep, wooded, rocky site overlooking the Delaware River in rural Shohola, Pennsylvania.  The house is an escape from New York City and a laboratory for ideas – a place to read and work, pace and think.  A place where indoors and outdoors blur.

The design is made of two intersecting rectangular volumes.

Hip & Gable in Australia by Architecture Architecture

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Article source: Architecture Architecture

Once was a time when a roof was a roof. Mostly it just sat up there to keep the rain off, but more importantly, it looked like a roof. A roof would hold itself in such a way, with its jaunty gables, casual hips and firm ridges, to let the world know that this house is a house. A noble task indeed. Yet, for the most part, a roof would do precious little to enliven the warren of rooms below.

This low maintenance, contemporary four bedroom house located in Concord, Sydney, completed in May 2016, has been designed to showcase the owners’ love for concrete and to provide more space and greater amenity for their family of four.

The clients were after a new contemporary house that would make better use of their existing site than their tired, red brick cottage. The clients own and operate a formwork business, which in turn has garnered them a great love and appreciation for concrete and wanted their new house to feature this throughout.

Levitt Goodman Residence in Toronto, Ontario by LGA Architectural Partners

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Article source: LGA Architectural Partners

328 Euclid Avenue is an urban infill site in downtown Toronto. Dean Goodman and Janna Levitt designed the house for their own use on a standard 20 foot wide downtown lot. Their intention was to build a small house of approximately 1,550 sq. ft., which would use a pragmatic approach to green building practices. It is two storeys high plus a basement, and utilizes all of this space to maintain a small footprint on the lot. The layout anticipates the changing needs of a family with teenagers and how the house may evolve over time as the children grow up and leave home. Modest in size, the main floor has an open floor plan of approximately 16’ x 55’ with large sliding doors at the front and back. This, coupled with a 12 foot ceiling height, contributes to the feeling of a generous interior larger than its actual size. Large windows allow for excellent natural light throughout the entire house and provide a sense of space, helping to moderate the long dark Toronto winter.

Article source: Itay Friedman Architects

Reinventing a space, demolishing the old and to approach the clients needs and wishes nowadays always requires a innovative idea.

A box can contain what you place in it, but most importantly can become what you brew of it. From this basic rethinking of the interior shell the Brew Box pad design scheme emerged.

Guazuma House in Villahermosa, México by Alberto Zavala Arquitectos

Tuesday, October 18th, 2016

Article source: Alberto Zavala Arquitectos

Weather conditions in the area, the topography and the existing vegetation, all acted as key elements in the creation of this eco-friendly project.

The land is located in a tropical area of lush vegetation on the outskirts of the city forming a descending grade from the upper street level to the rear garden which is adjacent to a golf course.

On the plot, there is a single tree (Guazuma ulmifolia, or more commonly known as West Indian elm or bay cedar) native to tropical America with highly visible dimensions and characteristics.
