House In The Market in Seville, Spain by sol89

Sunday, August 13th, 2017

Article source: sol89

The project arises from an emergency situation: a town hall execution order requires new owners of this 19th century home to intervene on it immediately to repair the pathologies detected by the technical inspection carried out some years before. The urgency and the limited budget conditioned the mode of intervention: the owners decided to start the work themselves. They demolished partitions, removed suspended ceiling and claddings walls, to get to know what the house could hide. In the process in which they move blindly, where to erase is needed more than to draw and where the project goes and comes back, they go slowly discovering latent house that was hidden, veiled under the guise of partitions, mortars and plasters. Along the way, they decide to remove damaged parts, recover blind holes which existed in another time and to give up surface in exchange for volume. They also opt to retain those rediscovered elements that narrate the history of that place assuming that time also builds. During the two-year renovation process, the needs of its owners change.

Brise Soleil House in Valencia, Spain by Ruben Muedra Estudio de Arquitectura

Friday, August 11th, 2017

Article source: Muedra Estudio de Arquitectura

Housing located in a residential area near Valencia. It is a project in section (and in elevation), that provides an interesting game of different interior heights, communicated by a light and sculptural staircase of steel and oak that articulates the house. On the outside, the variety of heights moves to the elevation, where the geometric sincerity gives rise to a powerful Brise Soleil that opens the house to the long views of the west, while it protects of the solar radiation. Light and shadow controlled from the outside to the interior.

Williams Residence in Lake Oswego, Oregon by Robert Oshatz Architect

Friday, August 11th, 2017

Article source: Robert Oshatz Architect

When the original house was built in 1972, it was isolated in the woods. The Williams bought the house in the 1980s. They fell in love with the property but were never able to feel the same way about the exterior of the house. Over the years the area developed into a neighborhood of traditional houses; a style they did not appreciate.

Doppelgänger in Saint-Molf, France by KARST architecture

Wednesday, August 9th, 2017

Article source: KARST architecture

Located in a tiny village facing salt marshes on the French Atlantic coast, this wooden house extension is a modest holiday home and a writer’s retreat. The client’s idea for this project was born several years ago when saving a few old, massive oak beams from the demolition of a neighboring farm. The idea appealed to us but it was all we knew when we first visited the site.

Unità residenziale al servizio dell’ albergo diffuso di Paluzza in Italy by ceschia e mentil architetti associati

Wednesday, August 9th, 2017

Article source: ceschia e mentil architetti associati

On a small piece of foundation land where once stood a rural building a small residential unit was built, part of a larger project by the name of “Albergo Diffuso” in the municipality of Paluzza. The project, promoted by the Tourism Department of the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and co-financed by EU funds, aims to promote the re-use and the recovery of a building heritage which is left to deteriorate with the objective of promoting a new sustainable form of tourism capable, at the same time, of revitalizing highly depopulated areas. The ambition is to increase the welcoming capacity for tourists not thought big hotel infrastructures but thanks to small units widespread on the territory. The desired outcome is a touristic offer not only at a low-cost hospitality but also the possibility, offered to guests, of choosing an alternative holiday/break solution to the mainstream offer.Inside, the house offers a domestic geography which is intimately linked to the morphology of the site. A black space with a small window becomes the place for cooking and eating, the big frameless glass window is the place for conversation, while a low window allowing the continuation of the outside landscape sculpts a small wooden intimate alcove for the night.
