Standard House in Pszczyna, Poland by KWK PROMES

Saturday, March 1st, 2014

Article source: KWK PROMES

The project arose in untypical conditions: it was supposed to be built in two different places – near Pszczyna and in the outskirts of Berlin. As the second location was still to be chosen, the main goal became to design a house that fits every plot. This is how the idea of standard hOuse emerged, first such an attempt in the KWK Promes history. Round shape of the house makes it easily suitable to any given shape of the site, freedom in the choice of a roof type makes it universal in terms of landscape conditionings, while flexibility of interior plan adopts it to needs of an individual family.

The Hendee-Borg House is a symmetrical saw-tooth roof house for two artists—a sculptor and a media artist—that includes a pair of large artist studios and an attenuated gallery space, in addition to a sequence of domestic spaces. The studio spaces are planometrically-mirrored about an east-west axis in order to facilitate distinct, natural lighting conditions for each studio under a series of eight skylights.

Article source: Jaanus Orgusaar

NOA is an easily mountable sustainable living space, adaptable to a variety of landscapes and environments. The advantage is that one can always add a module to extend the housing step by step, with each module, ones „saves“ a wall.

It is an invention by Jaanus Orgusaar, an Estonian designer-inventor. He built the first one for his own family, and plans to add two more modules. One module is 25 sq metres.

Shirley Road in Groton, Massachusetts by LABhaus Design GmbH

Friday, February 28th, 2014

Article source: LABhaus Design GmbH

The project is a compound in Groton, MA. The project started with a 1930’s Sears kit house set upon 1.4 gently rolling hectare overlooking substantial preserves about an hour outside of Boston. While charmingly renovated, the existing structure offered only very small-scale spaces which couldn’t really accommodate family and guests looking for escape to the countryside.

Auto-family house in central poland by KWK PROMES

Friday, February 28th, 2014

Article source: KWK PROMES

Autofamily house represents a new way of thinking about the entrance area in a suburban residence. We usually enter the house by a car, using the garage integrated in main solid. The main entrance is rarely used. Nowadays the cars are becoming cleaner and more eco-friendly, hence the idea emerged to include the garage into the representative entrance area.

CASA TOMÁS in Barcelona, Spain by LAB, Laboratory for Architecture in Barcelona

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

Article source: LAB, Laboratory for Architecture in Barcelona

Louis Kahn divided spaces into two types: served and servant (where ‘servant’ refers not to domestic staff but to spaces serving other spaces). Marcel Breuer structured a considerable number of his single-family homes into a bi-nuclear scheme. The pre-existing H-shape of the Tomás home already favoured its spatial organization into two living areas, as in Breuer’s plan: one part to be used for daytime activities – the social area – and the other for night-time functions – the private area. The connecting room was to be a servant space but also given its own character so that, rather than being relegated for use as a mere passageway, it could also function as a living area. The other two rooms would be served spaces.

House in Uitdam, Netherlands by Korteknie Stuhlmacher Architecten

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

Article source: Korteknie Stuhlmacher Architecten

Uitdam is a small, picturesque village at the banks of the IJsselmeer. The clients found a small house to be demolished, next to the church and the dyke, just big enough for a new dwelling for two. Shape, materials, dimensions and the slope of the roof were almost fixed from the beginning. The spatial rules in the area are very strict, as the inhabitants of the region, the municipality and the tourists wish to protect the fragile, historically grown cultural landscape with its present consistency and small-scale beauty.
