“Tea House in Li Garden” in Shanghai, China by Atelier Deshaus

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017

Article source: Atelier Deshaus

The Tea House is located in an approximately 110 m2 little garden, where a tall paulownia stands and covers our little building under its huge crown. Before that, this small place could not be seriously called garden, for it was something residue left by two staircases connecting to the neighboring office. Therefore, how to make the Tea House occupy this space at a minimum level so as to form a garden, becomes a key point in the design process.

House Justice in NSW, Australia by buck&simple

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017

Article source: buck&simple

House Justice involves alterations and additions to a two storey, semi-detached, Edwardian Queen Anne/Arts and Crafts style house listed on the state heritage inventory. The project begun with our client requesting that we add a carport and an awning reacquainting the rear yard with their home.

Their decision to downsize and remain local to the civic and social places they love, thankfully, had positive repercussions on the design process.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017

Article source: Ström Architects

“The Quest” is a private house in Swanage (UK); it is a new-build home replacing an ageing bungalow that had been on the site since 1917.

The clients wanted a house for their retirement, but with a keen interest in design and a love of abstract and modern art, it needed to eschew the usual trappings of staid, retirement home design.

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017

Article source: Santoscreativos + Vtaller

Sole Houses are two twin houses located in a private residential development in Guadalajara City (Mexico). These houses were designed for a real state group for sale. For such reason, Sole Houses should accomplish a very specific program that could in general terms “take into account” the main needs of upper middle class families according to market standards, without knowing who will inhabit the house. At the same time, the project was looking forward to offer 2 unique facades that could identify each house with nevertheless they had same program, same orientation and same lot measures. The program initially consisted on: three rooms, studio, living room, dinning room, kitchen and two parking lots for each house.

Tuesday, February 21st, 2017

Article source: Madeleine Blanchfield Architects

This alts and adds project involved converting an existing 1920’s duplex apartment into a house. The internal planning was modified including all new bathrooms, kitchen and fit out. The existing street side facade was modified in keeping with the character of the existing building, the rear was completely opened to the garden and a new pavilion structure built to house dining and living areas. The contemporary and light filled new spaces make reference to the older existing ones in their materiality and proportions, but are distinctly contrasting. The result is a light filled new living area and character filled bedrooms and other rooms which highlight the qualities of the old and the new.
