Silvina and Omar’s house in Buenos Aires, Argentina by IR arquitectura

Saturday, April 25th, 2015

Article source: IR arquitectura

Silvina and Omar’s house used to be one among the typical vernacular models in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires. Silent as to its urban insertion, simple and compact in its layout on a single level, releasing a portion of the lot to the back, a flat roof directly related to the tops of the neighboring trees and dense vegetation at the back.

Camping Cala Llevadó is one of the most emblematic campsites in Costa Brava. It is situated next to the beaches between Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar. The campsite as a client requested us a proposal to put 33 units in a part of virgin forest situated at the tallest part of the camping. The campsite is located at the side of the natural park called “Massís de Cadiretes”. This natural park is formed by mountains of oak, cork and pine trees that are arriving to the sea.

CASA LLORELL EN LA COSTA BRAVA in Girona, Spain by DOSARQUITECTES

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Article source: DOSARQUITECTES

A house situated in the heart of the Costa Brava with incredible views to a coast bay.
Costa Brava is different of other coasts because of the big forest slopes next to the sea.
The challenge was to fit a big program in a volume with some formal contrast with the nature of the place. So we propose some cubes placed as if they were randomly thrown, like if they were fallen from the sky, but finally they really derive from the fan-shape of the plot.

Casa LPZ by Arquitectura en Movimiento Workshop

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Article source: Arquitectura en Movimiento Workshop

An elderly couple with a newborn grandchild commissioned us to design their new residence on a section between two recently built houses. Among their main requirements was that the house should have little or no visual contact with the neighboring properties and that daily life should happen on a single level. In addition to the usual requirements they asked for a guest bedroom and a gym on an upper level, which we resolved by means of gentle transition, that is, without long-spanning flights of stairs.

Primrose Avenue in Singapore by HYLA Architects

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Article source:  HYLA Architects

This 3-storey intermediate terrace house has a unique rotating screen on its front elevation. Its cross section has an aerodynamic boomerang shape that serves to deflect wind on one side. On the other side the screen is clad with timber to give privacy. So the occupants can rotate the screen according to what they need. This also gives the facade an ever changing pattern that corresponds to the mood of its users. Inside the 1st storey has a high ceiling and good cross ventilation into a rear garden court. The staircase has a unique triangular cross section and is well lit with a skylight above.

House CS in Central Coast, Chile by Alvaro Arancibia + Sebastian Coll

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Article source: Alvaro Arancibia + Sebastian Coll

This is a weekend house located on the central coast of Chile, 160 kilometers away from Santiago. The brief was to design a family house that could fit up to 12 people within a hilly site where the sea views are only possible in its highest point. In response to this, one of the main strategies was to rise the house above the surrounding dwellings and maximize the built area at that level, arranging the public programme on top and the private programme on the bottom. Due to the house faces south, the main floor follows a sloping roof that brings light from north and protects the public area from the sunset. Beside it, a lower height volume faces the street, concentrating the kitchen and main services, which are treated with a system of sliding shutters that control the privacy and views from the exterior. This volume does not only work as a buffer zone between exterior and interior but also as a scalar element that conceals the overall size of the house. In terms of materials, intention behind the choice of them was to use rough and cheapest construction systems such as concrete and brick for the core structure and then start dressing the house with finer elements such as glass, timber and steel that could give lightness to the house. These are used in many ways in the upper storey, becoming the flooring, ceiling, staircases, and ventilated cladding, among others.
