Old Westbury Residence in New York by Mojo Stumer Associates

Monday, September 30th, 2019

Article source: Mojo Stumer Associates

The clean lines and carefully structured geometry of this modern Long Island home make a statement of aesthetic and style, while maintaining a natural connection to the surrounding landscape. Characteristic yet subtle, the architecture exhibits a clear and exciting contrast from the neo-traditional residences in the surrounding areas. Set back from the road and sited centrally on the plot, the structure is presented against a backdrop of old growth trees, and artfully carved to create a varied massing of solid and void, highlighted by a two-story glass box eliciting views directly through the home to the landscape beyond. The proportions of the structure work to minimize the effect of the two-story massing, emphasizing rather the horizontality of the elongated main level.

Politických Vězňů by OOOOX s.r.o.

Sunday, September 29th, 2019

Article source: OOOOX s.r.o.

Concept /colours /materials – The maisonette in the historical centre is a result of merging two flats one above the other. The building went through a radical reconstruction in the past; after removing a plasterboard ceiling we discovered a rough concrete ceiling which we decided not to hide in the interior. This has resulted in a contrast among historical details, such as profiles, veneer around and rough concrete. The entire interior is toned in monochromatic colours with subtle brass accents.

Layout On the bottom, entrance floor, we see a living room, a guest room and facilities situated, whereas a kitchen, a dining room and a private bedroom are located on the upper floor. A separate bathroom is situated on each floor.

F.P. House in Salto Grande, Brazil by Studio AFS

Sunday, September 29th, 2019

Article source: Studio AFS

Two unified plots in private condominium. A place with visuals and natural landscapes that contrast with the chaotic city life. With these features, and a stripped lifestyle, was proposed a design that brings nature into the interior of the residence and provides the freedom the family desired.

Natural materials, as rocks and wood, allied to apparent bricks and concrete brought the construction to the outdoor nature and garden. The great glazed plans allow the entrance of natural light and the feeling of the social areas to be a large internal balcony to the house. Correct solar orientation has made it possible to explore this interior/exterior integration to the fullest.

Oxley + Stirling in Australia by Elenberg Fraser

Sunday, September 29th, 2019

Article source: Elenberg Fraser

The proposal was to enhance the connection between the site and the spectacular views of the Brisbane River and the city center to the north. Oxley + Stirling sits on a picturesque bend between two reaches of the Brisbane River. Harnessing the unique outlooks across to the CBD and botanical gardens formed a building that would not work anywhere else. With the opportunity to create views for days, we could see that this exemplar of riverside architecture called for a touch of yesterday’s grandeur. Sometimes it’s best to return to the classics.

Nest and Cave House in Opatija, Croatia by Idis Turato / Turato Architects

Friday, September 27th, 2019

Article source: Idis Turato / Turato Architects

The hinterland of the Opatija Riviera in Croatia is dotted with villas (built within a century and a half). Their upper, front side reveals nothing but entrances beyond which we can only imagine their spaciousness. Their scale and relation to the bay are entirely dependent on the seafront slope (perhaps, it is the tension arising from the assumption of something hidden what gives the spatial frame of Opatija’s hinterland its appeal).

Oriental Villa in Hangzhou, China by GOA

Friday, September 27th, 2019

Article source: GOA

The project is a duplex house that attempts to combine tradition with modern style in design. Modern lightness and traditional heaviness are unified and fully expressed in this project.

The overall planning of the project emphasizes the central axis, with the neighborhood center, infinity pool and central green space on the central axis, introducing the canal landscape into the house garden to integrate with the surrounding landscape. This project emphasizes centripetal force and ceremonial sense to create a noble shared space of the house garden. The layout along the river is relatively free, and the scattered layout makes full use of the landscape resources, so that the rear houses also have the broad view and canal landscape.

22 Jalan Kembangan in Singapore by Timur Designs LLP

Thursday, September 26th, 2019

Article source: Timur Designs LLP

The site for this house posed several challenges to overcome.

Firstly, it is located right at the junction of two busy 4-lane roads. And in addition to that, the overhead MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) viaduct for the East-West cross-island train is located just beyond one of these roads. There is constant noise coming from cars and the passing train.

The front of the site, where the main gate is located, faces almost West. To keep out heat and glare from the low angle western sun, the 2 most visible facades cannot have too many see-through openings.
