Casa Moscova in Milan, Italy by Studio GUM

Sunday, October 2nd, 2016

Article source: Studio GUM

The Moscova house is a volume with rectangular plan, placed on the fifth and top floor of a nineteenth century building, situated in a street corridor connecting the ‘garden’ of the city of Milan, the Sempione Park, to “Chinatown”, whose pronunciation perfectly alludes today to that cosmopolitan quality of big and small cities. The longitudinal development of the plan measures 5×20 m: the elongated west side adjoins to a symmetrical apartment, presenting thus no openings, while towards east wide roof openings offer a  broad view onto the skyline of Porta Garibaldi. The structure is of masonry and the thick partition walls of pressed bricks of which it consists divide the space in four communicating areas, connected towards west by a series of aligned openings that offer a full visual lengthwise from one end to the other. On top of the one sided pitched wooden roof, a row of skylights delivers a significant amount of light towards the ‘blind’ side of the house.

Mangulica house in Yucatan, Mexico by Alberto Zavala Arquitectos

Sunday, October 2nd, 2016

Article source: Alberto Zavala Arquitectos

This house is located on the tropical coast of Yucatan, Mexico, its keynote idea being to confuse the borders existing between the “inside” and the “outside”. This duality gives rise to surprises and a constant awareness of situations occurring outside. Movement (motion) becomes particularly important, as does the change from day to night and the changing of seasons.

Butanta House in São Paulo, Brazil by LAB Arquitetos

Sunday, October 2nd, 2016

Article source: LAB Arquitetos

In sight of a comfortable house for the whole family, the owners decided to renovate an old house from the early 50s.
The architects from Lab Arquitetos developed the project in order to integrate the outdoor area to the inside of the house, making it possible the usage of pergolas, balconies and wide windows.

Searching for an aesthetical look that refers to the northern Argentina fields and grasslands, rustic materials such as wood were used, contrasting with the contemporary furniture and integrated rooms.

Zn House in Toronto, Canada by +tongtong Inc

Sunday, October 2nd, 2016

Article source: v2com

Multidisciplinary design studio +tongtong recently completed a renovation and addition to a traditional Victorian house in Toronto. The house was transformed into an open and bright modern home through a series of strategic moves and incisions.

The specifications were to build a modern family home that expands the area of livable space while remaining true to the vernacular of the neighborhood. This challenge was met with an emphasis on natural materials and light. Inspired by rural living and the original build date of the home, industrial materials accentuate re-imagined architectural qualities in an unmistakable contemporary space.

Haus Meister in Rümlang, Switzerland by HDPF – Hamburger Du Pfammatter Ferrandiz

Friday, September 30th, 2016

Article source: HDPF – Hamburger Du Pfammatter Ferrandiz

This single-family house is located on a former cooperative workers’ estate and replaces a building designed in 1948 in the spirit of the garden city. Its close proximity to the airport meant that the municipal building regulations largely ceased to have effect. The resulting restriction to a slightly larger replacement building and the distance guidelines created a lengthwise rectangular plan and volume.

Thursday, September 29th, 2016

Article source: T3 Architecture

Complete refurbishment of this duplex in the center of Marseille by the french studio T3 Architecture. The existing flat suffered from a significant lack of light and its main rooms were constrained by the central staircase.

The architects completely released the heart of the apartment by removing the stairs and most of the partitions. The entrance of the flat now enjoys a generous double height volume that offers a visual communication between the different spaces of the two storeys.
