Thursday, May 24th, 2018

Article source: Béres Architects

The building site is located halfway between the traditional village centre and the “used to be” traditional vineyard area of Balatongyörök, Hungary. Currently this hillside is almost empty and the property is involuntarilly becoming a focal point of the surroundings.

“We had a chance to create a house that could send a message to the future investors of the area. Whisper something about simplicity, calmness and local values.” – Attila Béres says.

Residence RR in Kersko, Czech Republic by monom

Thursday, May 24th, 2018

Article source: monom

Kersko. A well-known place, a “forest town” with a population of about 200, yet mysterious and ever-surprising. The plot is square, with sides of 100m. Two thirds of the original pine trees are still standing, and young oaks, birch trees and hornbeams have been added. A natural pond has become the focal point of the place and attracts forest creatures, both original and new. The house, a Finnish Honka log house, stands confidently but humbly amongst the trees by the water’s surface. It is hardly noticeable from the street. Its occupants imbibe the forest sounds and scents beneath the pine tree crowns.

Thursday, May 24th, 2018

Article source: Studio David Thulstrup

The renowned photographer Peter Krasilnikoff commissioned architecture practice Studio David Thulstrup for his private residence and studio in the Islands Brygge harbour-side district of Copenhagen.

The guiding inspiration for the project evolved from worn-out warehouses and factories with their blackened steel and old bricks; a concept direction which was sparked by the desire to retain the three raw-brick walls of the original garage building on the site.

Flower Duplex in Venice, California by MODAL DESIGN

Thursday, May 24th, 2018

Article source: MODAL DESIGN

Located on a tight lot in Venice, California, the Flower Duplex is a union of opposites. Initiated by a local couple who had opposing styles, Modal Design resolved programmatic needs by replacing an existing duplex with a new structure that blended their distinct aesthetics. While the project was fairly straightforward programmatically, aesthetically the task was more challenging as their ideas for their new home were distinct. Hers: a rustic and potentially traditional home that evoked images of aging barns in her home state of Colorado. His: a modern and open space connected to the outdoors.

El Establo in Alajuela, Costa Rica by Plup! Studio Costa Rica

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

Article source: Plup! Studio Costa Rica

Located in a rural area in the outskirts of San Jose, is [El Establo]. A project that was thought to have a very honest relationship with both its natural and constructed context. The concept of the project stems from the structures for the stables, very common in the area that regularly has horse’s establishments.

A relatively warm zone throughout the year motivated us to implement climate conditioning strategies such as long overhangs and cross ventilation, typical of tropical architecture. The area, although it is 20 km from San Jose, has conditions closer to the dry tropical forest.

Article source: Alejandro Soffia, Arquitecto

Architects make valuable efforts to improve the environment of our various activities. But splendid architecture happens in specific cases, therefore the benefits of good design are quantitatively low for the Society. Although these specific cases may be buildings that house many people or have a high qualitative impact on their environment, they do not really influence in the growth of our built environment.

House D in Dornbirn, Austria by Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten

Monday, May 21st, 2018

Article source: Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten

Stüben, a steep mountain plot above Dornbirn, offers views over the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley, the alpine landscape from the First to the Swiss mountains and in the northwest over Lake Constance. The house captures the panorama with its largely glazed living area on the top floor, and in its formal language it creates references to the architecture of traditional farmhouses.
