House in Bernolákovo, Slovak Republic by ZITNANSKY GONDA architects

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

Article source: ZITNANSKY GONDA architects

The project was not a standard investor-architect assignment as one of the project’s authors is also the house investor along with his partner. Both had dreamt of a non-standard housing in a town or smaller village, which would have its intimacy and be protected from the usual street noise.

The house’s aim was to use the potential of the surrounding gardens and its view of the surrounding countryside. Inside, an emphasis is placed on the functional, material and artistic aspects to create an inspirational environment for creation, as both investors are creative professionals.

Venice House in California by pod architecture + design

Friday, April 20th, 2018

Article source: pod architecture + design

Venice House is a compact, three-story house in Venice Beach, CA, huddled among the neighborhood’s densely packed residences and detached garages. The sloping trapezoidal roof and white metal and warm wood exterior walls make it stand out in the crush of houses.

There were just 700 square feet on which to begin custom-designing a modern three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath house for this family of four. Since we couldn’t build out, we built up, stacking spatial needs vertically, starting with an open two-car garage and private outdoor living space on the ground level.

Norhouse in Bandung, Indonesia by Aaksen Responsible Aarchitecture

Friday, April 20th, 2018

Article source: Aaksen Responsible Aarchitecture

Urban residential development increases rapidly with the advancement of life expectancy in urban areas. Aside from expensive land prices and low quality of life, it is not difficult to find dense settlements in the middle of the city. Most of those have no access to big vehicles, even though there is a road nearby.

Located in a dense settlement with a narrow alley as the only access, precisely in Jalan Pahlawan, Bandung, West Java – Indonesia, NOR House is a residence of a couple, Sisca, and Ovian. The two-floor house was completed in early 2018. The name of NOR House itself is taken from their children, Adara Kaila Eleanor and Sophia Cyrilla Eleonora, who have the word nur or light in Arabic as part of their name.

Villa N1, designed by Jonas Lindvall of the Swedish multidisciplinary design studio Lindvall A & D, is a single-family summerhouse located on the west coast of Sweden. It is situated in an area that was once a popular holiday region, but is now inhabited all year-round. The order is a second home for a family on the slopes of a hill located in the southern sector of Laguna Aculeo, Paine.

Hat house in Kobe, Japan by FUMIASO ARCHITECT & ASSOCIATES

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Article source: FUMIASO ARCHITECT & ASSOCIATES

The site lying in the middle of the landscape where houses are layered towards Mt. Rokko. While sunny and irregular houses are lined up, there are many homes that open on the south side (sea side), and there is some kind of homogeneity. In building a house in this place, the inner wall was first set at an angle to the light on the south side (sea side), and the axis of the wall was inclined at 45 degrees on the plane. The outer wall was an elongated rectangle in the east and west to the east and west, and the wall extending 45 degrees was enclosed once with a frontage of 5.8 meters and a depth of 13 meters. As a result, the depth of 5.8 meters from the south opening is obliquely about 8.2 meters, so the light gradation appears more clearly. Also, due to the wall tilted at 45 degrees, the light crosses due to the difference in the depth of the space of the light that changes from the east to the west and the material changes, it melts and feels the dimensions of the light over the multidimensional. Moreover, it gives plans migratability, and it generates experiential depth to every direction.

Helen’s House in Gdynia, Poland by MSWW Ministerstwo Spraw We Wnetrzach

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Article source: MSWW Ministerstwo Spraw We Wnetrzach

Helen’s House is a new story of a house which springs out from the old urban fabric of Gdynia. The interior of the house has been inspired by its body where the internal architecture of homely space is shaped by the division of particular rooms. A dialogue of wood and concrete creates the main suspense which develops the temperature of the interior. Entwined in a mutual relation, these two materials unpretentiously spread through equivocal surfaces – walls, ceilings. And the noble light oak wood seems to be the winner here. Its warmth creates the pleasure that can be experienced in that space. It warms up the shades of grayness, concrete textures and hard materials.

OVULE in Tokyo, Japan by TOMOKAZU HAYAKAWA ARCHITECTS

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Article source: TOMOKAZU HAYAKAWA ARCHITECTS

This is a small house in a residential area in Bunkyo-ku Tokyo. We set large windows on the open south side and set a green screen as south facade by making planter boxes on each floor. The ceiling at the window is mirror finished, it functions as a device that green captures inside the room. The eaves were deeply attached to each floor, the void was divided by the planters. Keeping an appropriate distance with neighbors, we just imagined a meditation space that can live together with GREEN plants in small streets. We thought here is not ‘modest living’ of ‘small dwell’ but a ‘BIG LIFE’ of ‘SMALL DWELL’.
