Skygarden House in Toronto, Canada by DUBBELDAM Inc.

Wednesday, July 18th, 2018

Article source: DUBBELDAM Inc.

Situated on a narrow lot in an older Toronto neighbourhood, the Skygarden House provides outdoor living spaces on multiple levels to address the owners’ desire for a better connection to the home’s natural surroundings. The owners used to spend their weekends at a home in the country, located next to a stream and surrounded by trees. For their new urban home, they wanted to emulate this bucolic experience and satisfy their deep connection to nature.

58 Public Housing Torresolo in Vizcaya, Spain by IDOM

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

Article source: IDOM

The 58 subsidized dwellings developed by Sukia are located on the edge of a hillside in the municipality of Leioa, therefore having great visibility in the surroundings. The Masterplan defined a base that would occupy the garages level. This plinth would then support, as if it were a podium, four blocks which, also dictated by the council, would have the same materials as the façade. Two of these blocks make up the development we are dealing with.

The Annex in Los Angeles, California by MARTIN FENLON ARCHITECTURE

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

Article source: MARTIN FENLON ARCHITECTURE

Once a crowded property with an aging bungalow and a commercial storefront, this live/work complex accommodates the architect’s growing family and practice. The expansion to the recently remodeled bungalow includes a new family room, exterior courtyard and deck, an attic conversion and stair hall. The storefront building, with its several bootleg additions, previously took up half of the site, exceeding the allowable floor area for the property and leaving little open space. In order to make space for the new yard and the 620 square feet of additions to the house, over 600 square feet of the storefront was demolished. To keep costs down, the architect did all of the construction with the help of a two-man crew over the course of almost 5 years.

TLI House in Tuscany, Italy by ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

Article source: ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

To think about different spaces in which to do different activities in different moments of the day is a mechanical mental form inherited by modern industrial culture.

Architecture has to get past and to unhinge this rigid manner to conceive life spaces.

This is the main effort for the renovation of a flat, contained inside an early-seventies block of apartments, despite its small size!

Article source: ATELIER JØRGENSEN

Set within the vineyards and close to the center of town, the site for the house is a large plot of land dotted with full grown trees and vineyards.

The project consists of two houses connected with glass. Each house is protected from a busy road with two ‘L’ Shaped walls – one is stone and one is cedar. A number of pieces behind these walls are arranged together around courtyards and terraces. In turn giving rise to a sequence of individual gardens, each with their own individual ambience – gardens set among other limitless gardens. A system of slender spaces act like paths connecting the gardens, courtyards, and interior spaces, each embracing and respecting the landscape.
