Nightingale Decor in Los Angeles, California by Erika Winters Design

Thursday, March 2nd, 2017

Article source: Erika Winters Design

The house was built at the foot of a hill and —to make the most of the lot—concrete piling was done to have the necessary structure to meet the program required by the clients. It is a two-storey house with a flat roof and elevator that also has an attractive hill where herbal and fruit gardening was developed. It’s like a boat on the sky by the way it stands out from the piles and integrates into its environment.

House M in Möhlin, Switzerland by Jan Skuratowski Architektur

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

Article source: Jan Skuratowski Architektur

The new single-family house was designed as a separate residential unit and can hold its own next to the existing building from the 80s. It is situated on a partly raised plateau in the south-eastern part of the property. The two buildings differ in their roof design and thus emphasize their autonomy. At the same time, the new building paraphrases the existing building’s design: by its polygonal ground plan, which follows the hill’s shape, and expressive cantilevered floors. Wood was used a material to contrast the rather heavy sand-lime brick of the existing structure. Hierarchically, the new building is supposed to subordinate to the existing building and is therefore set slightly to the rear of the site. The new structure appears like a pavilion and, thanks to the flat roof, has a large accessible roof terrace that expands the small plot effectively. The greening of the roofs is intended to give the new building an animated character and link it with nature and the hill.

Lissen House in Castilleja de la Cuesta (Sevilla), Spain by Studio Wet

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

Article source: Studio Wet

“We carried out the expansion of a detached house, in an urban environment with a city model already closed years ago, a legally protected atmosphere, a building remaining in the plot that customers are willing to exhaust but always under the premise of a budget Limited and with reasonable programmatic requirements. We also add the derivations of the urban regulations -separation to boundaries and maximum fund- and the technological limitations in the local construction. To our methodology we call it critical pragmatism.Through it a project is built Of the tangible thing that always evaluates as contingencies indispensable, never assigning them the name of renunciation. In the end, contingencies become one, its construction. With
our proposal we respect the existing building by action (enlargement is done with a language Totally different) and omission (without transforming the volume or its appearance.) We have also found in the reverberation of the curved motives a vehicle for the visual coherence of the proposal, both for us in the process and for the client in the constructed. The curve as an expression of what is added to the existing building, both internally and externally.

And the result is a slowly developed and slowly built project. Too slowly, we are aware that this is also a luxury, especially for us, and that model of work is bound to disappear.
