Moradia Gafanha da Boavista in Portugal by Arch. Adalberto Dias

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Article source: Arch. Adalberto Dias

The plot in Gafanha da Boavista is narrow and long.

The program was interesting and not vulgar for a single family dwelling.

The clients, young couple formed in the Nordic countries, had a different concept of life and another notion of family structure and their relationships.

Three spaces and a corridor, in three volumes, was the concept of the project.

Article source: justin mallia architecture

Oak Grove is a development driven venture. Between a detailed client brief laden with ideas about visual style, and the site located in the eclectic suburban context of East Malvern, the architecture negotiates a meaningful contemporary response within highly saturated physical and conceptual parameters.

Havre 77 ReUrbano in Colonia Juárez, Mexico City by Francisco Pardo Arquitecto + Amezcua

Sunday, January 8th, 2017

Article source: Francisco Pardo Arquitecto

As its name — which reflects its exact address — would suggest, Havre 77 by Francisco Pardo Arquitecto in collaboration with architect Julio Amezcua is an urban re-densification and reactivation project that sinks its roots deeply into Mexico City’s urban fabric. Standing on the south side of the emblematic Paseo de la Reforma, the intervention is part of a wider regeneration program covering Colonia Juárez. Today a bustling central district, the area used to be one of the city’s most exclusive suburbs back in the early 1900’s, before it was hit by a revolutionary war and two destructive earthquakes in 1957 and 1985, which led to a rent freeze for over 50 years.

Summer House Gravråk in Flakstad, Norway by Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk AS

Sunday, January 8th, 2017

Article source: Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk AS

This project for a summer retreat is an addition to, and rehabilitation of an old “Nordlandshus” (traditional northern Norwegian house) on a remote site in the coastal island area of Lofoten. The original idea was to encapsulate the old and worn-down timber core within a new climatic shell, leaving the old house standing freely and structurally unstressed inside, with the traditional timber constructions exposed. The added construction followed its own grid module, which – apart from a number of technical advantages – gave an interesting “syncopation” of window openings between the old and new structures.

Residence Saint-Ange in Seyssins, France by Studio Odile Decq

Sunday, January 8th, 2017

Article source: Studio Odile Decq

Perched on the crest of a hill, the residence is a monolithic sculpture —one that turns its back on the rest of the compound, looking out to to the historic city of Grenoble in the valley and the jagged French Alps beyond. Up the slight slope lies a bosque-like park, studded with sculptures from the owner’s collection, and the rest of the Tour Saint- Ange estate, which includes a 17th-century farmhouse, expanded into a villa in the 20th century.

odD House 1.0 in Quito, Ecuador by odD+ Architects

Friday, January 6th, 2017

Article source: odD+ Architects

DESCRIPTION

odD House 1.0, located in the sector of Tumbaco in Quito, Ecuador was conceived as a  therapeutic experiment and change of lifestyle for an elderly couple and their family after living in a rustic style home for over 30+ years. Facing very specific demands from the client, the architects strategized on a methodology for the design and final product by studying Neuroscience as well as the client´s lifestyle. This made the initial solution towards solving the design of the house easier; it made a clear diagram, and  gave a design direction towards the client`s main needs. It also raised questions about overall form and language.

Villa Meijendel in Wassenaar, Netherlands by VVKH architecten

House in dune landscape

A dense forest opens to a dune valley. Sunlight casts shadows of branches and leaves against tree trunks. In the distance, a golfer walks through the empty surreal landscape. This unique environment – trees, light and dunes – influences the design of “villa Meijendel” in such a way as if it has sculpted the house.

House with Villa Silhouette in Lyttleton, New Zealand by Irving Smith Architects

Thursday, January 5th, 2017

Article source: Irving Smith Architects

House with Villa Silhouette

A house after the Christchurch quakes. One creative home comes down, another goes up, the new silhouetting the old, reminding, resettling, providing lineage.

Where the former villa sat square and inward, the new layers out across the southern view, shaping to the silhouette for light, and framing a greater appreciation of the everyday.
