Resort & Winery BORGO BACCILE in Crecchio, Italy by Rocco Valentini

Sunday, August 20th, 2017

Article source: Rocco Valentini

Restoration and reuse of a tiny rural hamlet immersed in the Abruzzo countryside, in an advanced state of degradation, to transform it into a receptive structure, able to convey to the guests the emotions and sensations of the pre-industrial campaign life. Buildings have been made functional with the addition of contemporary structures. The small Borgo Baccile, dating from a few houses dating back to the mid-‘800, is located just a short distance from the historic center of Crecchio. The buildings, following the post-war social transformations, had been abandoned. Some of them, such as House B, had structural and empty breakdowns due to collapse. The design choice was to leave the original mummified structures, making them anti-seismic with steel injections and steel rims, and add functional elements with contemporary shapes, materials and colors in harmony with the sandstone of existing buildings.

Modern Lodge in Weatherby Lake, Missouri by Kemstudio

Friday, August 18th, 2017

Article source: Kemstudio

The owners work in the urban core but want to truly wind down when they head home and casually entertain friends. They purchased a waterfront lot on Weatherby Lake, MO, USA with the vision of creating a “Modern Lodge”. The concept draws from the owner’s passion as a commercial photographer and the process of capturing an experience with a still photo. The house is two simple platonic forms, one resting on the other, pulled apart to create an aperture to the lake. The view is revealed once you enter the house, leaving the city behind and immersing yourself in lake living.

Article source: Marià Castelló

Can Xomeu Rita is a small dwelling that takes the name of the traditional place name of the interior of the island of Formentera where it is located. Its location in the territory responds to a space free of vegetation close to the field of wheat and oats existing in the plot, where the alignment with the existing dry stone walls coincides with the good orientation towards the South as well as with an area adequate to recover the rain water in a cistern.

Narvarte Terrace in Mexico by PALMA

Friday, August 18th, 2017

Article source: PALMA

In Mexico City, the growing demand for housing in certain areas, as well as the increase in density, has motivated the population to find ways of making the most out of their rooftops. In this case, the client was looking to expand a small extra room to be used as a full studio with an independent access. One of the walls was partially demolished in order to add a second volume which would house the kitchenette, storage space, and a sofa-bed. The two volumes are connected by a metal roof which extends out to the edges of the house to create a covered patio. Thanks to a double wall and sliding pocket doors, the studio can be open up completely towards the terrace. The ‘incisions’ made to the existing structure are highlighted with a cement stucco finish and white paint, leaving the older brick exposed.

The Wedge House in Athens, Greece by schema architecture & engineering

Wednesday, August 16th, 2017

Article source: Schema Architecture & Engineering

The Wedge house is a custom-built single family home located in the northern suburbs of Athens, in the mountainous and full of pine trees area of Penteli, named Drafi. The site is quite distinctive and has many challenging features. The main complexity is the steep terrain with an almost 20-meter-height-difference from one side of the site to the other. The virtually vertical cliffs on both edges made access very difficult, so when a mild inclined surface appeared in the middle of the site it was quite inevitable that the house would be situated there.
