Cliff house / Flying container house in Johannesburg, South-Africa by Architecture for a change (pty)ltd

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017

Article source: Architecture for a change (pty)ltd

The main idea was to create a lightweight, off the grid, and affordable house. The design philosophy relates to critical regionalism within architectural theory. The South-Africa residential design market is still stuck with conventional building methods that aren’t suitable for our environment (colonial building methods). We had to analyse our current solutions, available technology and where the future is heading before we could start designing this house.

STV House in Biobío, Chile by Cristian Berrios Architects

Sunday, May 21st, 2017

Article source: Cristian Berrios Architects

From the architect. “Reinforced concrete does not grow like wood, is not rolled like steel sections, is not jointed like masonry. It is more comparable with cast iron, another material cast in moulds, in which through long experience shapes have been developed which lead easily and gently from one constructive element to the next without any shock or sudden break. It is the overall view which, integrating the parts into the whole, conditions these lovely shapes.” (Robert Maillart, 1938)

Sunday, May 21st, 2017

Article source: MARTIN DULANTO

The Project´s basic idea was to have minimum impact in the natural setting. Having this in mind we planed the house to be felt smaller tan what it really is. In proportion it is 15% smaller tan the average existing projects in the club prioritizing the relation between the architecture and its natural setting.

PIREHUEICO HOUSE in Antiago, Chile by Elemental

Friday, May 19th, 2017

Article source: Elemental

When we met the client for the first time, he asked us to do house with the color of the shadow. We thought that was an interesting challenge and we accept to design a private house for a rich client, a program that normally we don’t do because not relevant enough.

We were asked to design a summer/winter house in a remote landscape in the most southern part of Chile. More than a design, the client wanted us to consider all the variables that might be the case for the project and formulate an equation with them; the design then had to be just the resolution of that equation.

Boggestranda in Nesset, Norway by Rever & Drage Architects

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Article source: Rever & Drage Architects

The conversion has been made in order to change an old building with a simple cellar and ten very small rooms to a functional cabin. The owners wanted to retain the traditional and representative facade towards the road and other settlement in the village, however, they wished a more open aspect towards the fjord and mountains. The original building comprised a mix of building materials and included both vertical and horizontal panelling. A large glass panel has now been included in the south-east wall, such that the new kitchen has a completely open aspect to the views in this direction. The south and east facades were previously a collage of materials and colors which the new glass panel is now a part of. The top of the glass panel extends up past an existing low paneled wall in the loft, such that the woodwork absorbs warmth and sun-rays penetrate between the panels.

Falcon Beach House in Panamuna Drive, Australia by iredale pedersen hook

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Article source: iredale pedersen hook

The Falcon House challenges the inappropriate, contemporary approach of destroying the native landscape and topography. The upper level hovers gently as a white object, the lower level is a black shadow, in the middle is a thin zone of grey that reminds us that nothing is ever ‘black or white’.
