FUNES in Funabashi, Chiba, Japan by N MAEDA ATELIER

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

Article source: N MAEDA ATELIER

FUNES intentionally overturns the conventional Japanese housing program of “pluming to the rear”. Whoever decided that the living room and bedroom are served space and the bath and kitchen are servant space? FUNES eradicates the warped lifestyle program controlled by this dry functionality, and flattens out the lifestyle air, to create an enriched lifestyle atmosphere full of discoveries from the reverse.

I-house in Sasebo, Japan by Architect Show Co.,Ltd

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

Article source: Architect Show Co.,Ltd

The building site is a long, narrow piece of land between a coastline road and a cliff. The key design concept, besides assuring a sufficient living space, was to harmonize with the surrounding natural environment.

The land sits two meters below the roadside, and the natural slope of the land was daringly used without trying to restructure it. The building has a beautifully aesthetic form that makes it appear to be floating in the air. The north side facing the road is flat and simple. When approaching the house in a car, the white form of the west side of the building gradually gets larger, and reflects the sunlight.

TETRIS HOUSE in Toronto by Reza Aliabadi [rzlbd]

Saturday, October 19th, 2013

Article source: Reza Aliabadi [rzlbd]

We have all played the game “Tetris” at least once in our lives. We were mesmerized by the magic of geometry and rewarded by our efficiency. For rzlbd Tetris is not just a game of block arrangement and fast performance, but it is a quest of effective design. If a designer of space was as structured as Tetris blocks, there would be virtually zero wasted space within a building.

Article source: Shogo Aratani Architect & Associates

The site is located on a corner lot of a fancy residential area on a hill, and faces toward sloped roads on the west and north sides. This residential area was developed about a half century ago. As time has passed, small-scale developments have been undertaken due to dividing and uniting lots.

casa 3 in Foggia, Italy by Raimondo Guidacci

Friday, October 18th, 2013

Article source:  Raimondo Guidacci

This two-family house is located in Orsara di Puglia (southItaly), in a hill slope called Piano Paradiso.

The house is composed by an underground level, designed as garage, a groundfloor and an attic.

The main feature of this project is the roof, indeed it is modelled by the combination of three different skillion roofs with opposite orientation: two pointed towards the town centre and one oriented to the mountains. The entrance is placed on one side, connected with a minor street running along the slope.

Friday, October 18th, 2013

Article source: Q4 Architects

CORE recently won first prize in the AIA Designing Recovery design competition for the Joplin, Missouri site.

Designed by Q4 Architects, CORE in Joplin, MO is designed to address the local vernacular by combining two single-cell homes: a centrally located \”Safe House\” acts as the hearth and divides a \”Perimeter House\”. The Safe House contains all of the functions of ‘home’ that are necessary for a family to recover quickly from disaster and live for an extended period of time until rebuilding is possible.
