Lens House in London, England by Alison Brooks Architects

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Article source: Alison Brooks Architects

Alison Brooks Architects has extended a nineteenth century house in north London with two tapered volumes that project into the garden. The first volume wraps around the brick walls at the side and rear of the house to create a home office, while the second volume extends out at the back to increase the size of the first floor living room. The extensions are part of an overall transformation of a classic Victorian semi-detached villa for a client involved in photography and design.

South of Portugal, Algarve, Tavira. Here the ocean peeks, while the 400 olive trees surround the house. An old building has to give place to a new one, keeping the twovolume – footprint in the soft topography.

Article source: MDS Architect

Given Tokyo’s high land prices and laws that regulate construction on small sites, most clients wish to make the most of the space available to them. It is no exaggeration to say that architects make their own rules and solve the conundrums that arise with clients as if solving a puzzle.

House 0614 in Nicosia, Cyprus by Simpraxis

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Article source: Simpraxis

The house designed for a couple with two children is situated in a suburban area of Nicosia that is only recently undergoing development. The square footprint of the house is largely determined by the rectangular shape of the site subtracting the three meters required setback on three sides and allowing for a large yard at the back that faces south. The house attempts to address the dual nature of the largely undeveloped landscape that can be inviting but also intimidating. The box is programmatically divided into two parts. A two story rectangular box along the east boundary includes bedrooms and a bathroom for the children as well as guest areas, service areas, kitchen and parking. The remaining void of the double height ‘box’ includes the common areas, the outdoor covered areas on the ground floor and the master bedroom and bath on the second floor.

Megaphone House in Kiev Region, Ukraine by ZA Architects

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

Article source: ZA Architects

The summer house has been designed as simple box-shaped volume with a single-pitch roof. The special appeal of the house lies in the interior facing the outside. Overlooking the south, the volume has a large loggia adjacent to the kitchen and the living room. The loggia has functions similar to those of the house itself as it has a fireplace with a couch, a summer kitchen, and a large dining table with built-in places for seating. Thus, the house provides everything which is necessary for a summer vacation in the countryside. The cozy and warm interior adds a lot to the relaxed atmosphere of a holiday.
ZA architects made preliminary design of the house with the use of 3D visualization.
