Danish Seaside Dwelling in Dragør, Denmark by Studio David Thulstrup ApS

Friday, March 1st, 2019

Article source: Studio David Thulstrup ApS

In late 2015, Heidi and Kasper Egelund bought a piece of land in the neighbourhood of Søvang, a part of the Danish city Dragør. But don’t let the quiet and leafy location of Søvang fool you; the property is conveniently located only a 15-minute drive away from the center of Copenhagen.

On this seaside plot, they decided to build a bespoke beach house home for their family of five. The couple, who are both a part of the Danish family-run design firm, Vipp, turned to architect Mads Lund with a wish to create a family home centered around refined aesthetics and functional choices paired with the experience of nature while being indoors.

GR House in Sever do Vouga, Portugal by PAULO MARTINS ARQ&DESIGN

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: PAULO MARTINS ARQ&DESIGN

Inserted in a plot of land of irregular geometry and surrounded by constructions of little architectural value, this villa emerges as a consequence of its constraints.

If, on the one hand there is a reluctance to visually relate the villa’s interior spaces to its immediate surroundings, on the other hand, there is an uncontrollable desire to turn the villa entirely to face eastwards, towards its view of thunderous beauty and discrete privacy.

Pilgrims’ House in Vastseliina, Estonia by KAOS Architects

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: KAOS Architects

Architect Sami Rintala described the Pilgrims’ House as follows: ‘The building feels very integral by how it appears in the landscape when it is approached and by the view of the surroundings as seen from the inside. From the location to the details, from the clothes racks to the technological solutions of the exhibition, all elements seem to work together nicely. It is a successful abstraction of the medieval setting, without being romantic, or at least overly romantic. We can see what is new and what represents the old in a smart and balanced way. It is a building that left a very positive impression.’

Planter Box House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by formzero

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: formzero

Designed as a house for a retired couple who are passionate in growing foods, the plants filled Planter Box House appears less defined, as its appearance oscillates between garden, farm and house, anticipating for a redefinition of contemporary tropical house.

The house with its cascading concrete planter boxes occupied with more than 40 types of edible plants on every floor, creates a strong visual contrast with the surrounding buildings. Its recessed frontage provides additional public spaces for inter-neighborhood interaction. Beyond the boundary, the first planter box is built around an existing jasmine tree. This planter serves an urban furniture, a connection between the couple and their neighbour.

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: fmb architects

Sited at the edge of the small town Merklingen (Weil der Stadt), the small single-family house, impresses with it’s pure form, smart typology and compact volume.

The monochrome and umbra-grey plastered building creates a smooth transition to the landscape. The slim, the outside opening and flush-mounted windows and doors enlarge the space to the inside and intensify the shape of the building. The reduction in detail serves consciously the aestheticisation of the building and the focus to the essential.

Morrissey in Turin, Italy by BLAARCHITETTURA

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: BLAARCHITETTURA

This intervention is part of our double project in a same building. They have the exact same starting plan. They are two twin residential units, respectively the 5th and 6th floor of the same building. Even the internal conditions were the same.

Operatively we faced this project in the opposite way. The approach to the two projects was rather antithetical. Despite having both a type similar client, a young couple, we decided to treat the distribution issue in different way.

While the open area of PORTLAND is invaded by a falling meteorite (concrete cube), MORRISSEY is sectioned by bi-dimensional planes, which define spaces slicing the available volume.

My Precious Apartment in Bucharest, Romania by MISO ARCHITECTS

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: MISO ARCHITECTS

The apartment is located in the very center of Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, on the ground floor of a building completed in 2015. The 2 bedroom apartment came with white finished walls, beautiful wood flooring and 2 bathrooms, fully equipped and finished with travertine stone and ceramic tiles. The most valuable aspect of the apartment is the natural light flushing into the space thanks to the large windows.

The project title, My Precious, sums up the essence of the clients’ brief, their wish for a contemporary and elegant design that focuses on stylish finishes and textures. As they are residents of a seaside city, they also wished to season the design with a marine touch to remind them of their home – we respected this request by using turquoise and dark blue shades, such as the glass backsplash in the kitchen with a marine print, which became one of the most spectacular and memorable design elements in the whole apartment.

Horizontal House in Thailand by AAd I Ayutt and Associates design

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

Article source: AAd I Ayutt and Associates design

The Thai well-known architecture firm Ayutt and Associates design (AAd) designs a latest modern vacation house at Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand in the gated-residential community. The site is surrounded by national forest and heritage mountain, Where the natural curtain of lush tropical trees surrounds the site, whilst its slightly slopping terrain offers an ideal location for the house itself. The owner bought this 6 standard plots of land which is almost 10,000sq.m. of site area. This gated community is nothing new, just like the standard community in Thailand. All the standard houses are designed in the same way by copy and paste with bad ventilation, bad taking view and similar look for all the house types. Thus, the owner asked AAd to design their dream vacation house instead of buying the standard house from the developer.

Most of typical terrace housing in Malaysia always having a deep interior space and narrow due to developer want to maximize the number of units within the plot of land. The challenge is to transform the existing dark and tight interior spaces with many partition walls and low ceilings.  Privacy, security and cost are the prime concerns for the house owner.

The main design idea is to insert in a series of 3 courtyards spaces into the house bringing in light and greenery and blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces by connecting the indoor space to nature.

Cake House in Pistoia, Italy by Progettospore

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

Article source: Progettospore

The Cake House is a project for the extension of a twofamiliy house .

1. Analysis and observations:

The existing house is located in a residential area of the town which was bui lt between 1950 and 1970 and is characterized by one or twofamily houses with a garden.

The client’s needs were to increase the living space of 20 per cent, withou t diminishing the garden area.

After a preliminary analysis it was decided to act on the southwest side of t he house that was facing the garden and it could then offer a new view on the tow n.

From the beginning it was clear that one of the main problems would have been t he adjustment to the existing volume of the house because operating on that side of the house would have mean to completely upset the existing balance of it .
